It’s no secret that Boulder’s restaurant scene is bursting. We take our food scene seriously. You’ll find every type of cuisine, at any price point, to fit the needs of everyone in your group. That being said, it’s safe to say that we also take hour happy hour scene very seriously as well.

Sushi lovers across Boulder have no doubt found themselves at Hapa Sushi from one time or another, enjoying their excellent happy hour! The popular Pearl St. spot is usually packed with families, students, and celebrities (hello, One Direction!) alike, all eager to grub down on the unique spin on traditional Japanese. Next to your usual nigiri selection and negihama maki you’ll find dishes with names like “Magic Mushrooms”, “Booty Call Roll” and even a “Multiple Orgasm Roll” (yeah, it’s that good!). Plan on NOT being shy while you order 😉

The real highlight of this college kid haven, is the happy hour! Their selection includes 2 for $7 select rolls, $3.50 cocktails and bottles of sake and all their apps are half off!! So naturally, my friends and I like to head there frequently. We grabbed a seat on their Pearl St. patio one weekend and ordered a feast from both the happy hour and regular menu.

Obviously we started with a few of their sake cocktails. Everyone knows good food choices are made with a cocktail in hand.

One of my favorites is the Tuna Poke appetizer (think of a carpaccio or tartare) which includes a heaping pile of tuna on a bed of fried rice cake and crisp cucumbers. A go-to any time I happy hour at Hapa.

We decided to indulge our inner sushi freak that day so we ordered enough rolls that a sushi boat was needed. We ordered some classics, plus a few “Advanced Rolls”. They were everything delicious and more, and we definitely caught some slightly jealous stares from the Pearl St. crowd as they oohed and ahhed and some “Mmm that looks good”, as people passed.

This beauty has no name, but it was created by the sushi chef when I requested a “Chefs Creation”. I simply gave them a rough price point and told them I wasn’t picky. In return, they brought me this beautiful and delicious cucumber-japaleno-cilantro roll topped with salmon.

If you’re feeling lucky, I recommend doing that with all your rolls next time!

The best part of Hapa’s happy hour is that along with their traditional HH hours, they also offer a late night happy hour from 10-midnight Friday and Saturday complete with a DJ and cool kid lounge vibe. The perfect place to start your night without spending tons of money!
