A favorite event of mine which takes place at CU Boulder is the International Film Series, an event which features a widely diverse schedule. One of the most significant mistakes that one can make is to ignore the IFS while involved at the campus. It is vital that the International Film Series at CU Boulder is supported. It indeed is one of those programs that thrives off of student involvement; as such, keeping up to date on the schedule and what is being shown is very important. Here are some shows which are coming up at IFS that I believe one should mark on their calendar.

The Man Who Fell to Earth April 7th

It is likely that this title will strike a chord within David Bowie fans. Made in 1976, this film has created a variety of reactions. For some, it is a classic. For others, it is a confusing conundrum. Difference audiences will have different opinions when it comes to the movie. Nonetheless, the film is an experience in itself. It is a multitude of things all wrapped up into one. From a personal standpoint, seeing this movie expanded my notion of what a film could do and be. Even if a person views the film and discovers that they dislike it or do not understand it, it is still very much worth viewing. The Man Who Fell to Earth will screen on April 7th at 2:00 pm at Muenzinger Auditorium.

Jesus Christ Superstar April 21st

A somewhat controversial musical, it is one which was very important from a historical perspective of how the musical has evolved. Watching the film is one of the strangest things that a person can view. It offers an intensely political viewpoint, one that can be interpreted in many different ways. However, no matter if a person agrees with the film’s message, watching the film is an adventure. It is fascinating and does not have one particular meaning. The music, the acting, the direction; it is all incredibly unique. The film will screen at Muenzinger Auditorium on April 21st at 2:00 pm.

The Other Side of the Wind April 25th

This is a film which has been decades in the making. Directed by Orson Welles, this movie has faced massive issues and problems when it comes to arriving at the big screen. Orson Welles himself passed away before the finished product of the film could be revealed, and the movie had to be completed without him. Despite this, the team which worked on the film did their best to retain the spirit of Welles’ project. Now that the movie is out, audiences may finally experience The Other Side of the Wind in full. I would recommend that audiences take a chance with this movie and craft their own opinion. This film is an event in itself, and I hope that it is heavily viewed. The Other Side of the Wind will screen on April 25th at 7:30 pm at Muenzinger Auditorium.

For anyone who is involved in the CU Boulder campus, please mark these three dates on your calendar. When we are finished with college, we may not all have the opportunity to see these types of films as they were perhaps meant to be seen: collectively and on the big screen. So please, take the time to support the International Film Series and what it represents. If these films do not suit a person, one may always look at the full schedule which is offered online to see if any of the other movies fit their interests better.
