Not sure which trails are worth the trek? Never fear—we’ve compiled five of the best bike trails in the area to get you started.

1. Sunset Trail East, Erie CO

For those looking for a gentle start, this 1-mile beginner loop in Erie has high ratings, views of the plains, and nice easy switchbacks for a pleasant afternoon ride. This singletrack trail offers connections to Sunset West, County Road 5, and other trails and roads for those who want to keep on going.

2. Wapiti Trail, Boulder CO

For an intermediate pedal through the pines, check out this 5-mile out-and-back loop in the Heil Valley Ranch area. Push yourself up a challenging but rewarding incline on this rocky climb and then whizz back down free and easy—but watch out for those coming up!

3. Kruger Rock/Limber Pine Trail, Estes Park CO

If you think you can hack it, this 6-mile advanced loop in Estes Park will make the drive totally worth it. Through aspen forests and around mountains, this peaceful trail with varied terrain will challenge and thrill any experienced biker.

4. South Saint Vrain, Ward CO

Take a day off in the mountains with this 10-mile network of advanced trails in Ward. This trail is challenging and rocky, with beautiful forest and mountain views. There are some very technical spots, and you’ll have to hike your bike at certain spots, but it’s an excellent way to improve your skills!

5. Buchanan Pass, Ward CO

For stunning views and beautiful deep woods, this 10-mile out-and-back trail is for you. This advanced trail offers rock structures and technical areas, and you’ll likely be one of the only bikers around if you’re looking for a little solitude.
