Boulder Coke Mural! A Restoration Wonder Of A Past Age

Boulder Coke Mural

Boulder Coke Mural! Boulder County’s Coke mural was painted by a true artisan. It’s the REAL THING!

Discovery

Discovered hidden behind a wall, this Coca Cola artwork is a masterpiece. It was hidden, buried behind a wall and preserved for decades. In spite of preservation efforts, the sign is now faded and peeling. It was unable to hold up to the ravages of sun, wind, rain, snow, and the rest of Lafayette’s weather. Fortunately it was discovered and photographed. Fortunately many of us got to see the sign in its pristine condition shortly after it was uncovered, preserved, and shared.

Restoration Efforts

The restoration of the Coca-Cola mural in Lafayette, Colorado, began after it was uncovered beneath a wall on Public Road. Painted in the early 1900s, the mural had faded over time, hidden under various building renovations. Local historians, preservationists, and community members joined forces to restore the mural, seeing it as an important piece of Lafayette’s cultural heritage.

The process involved careful cleaning, stabilization of the brickwork, and revitalization of the original colors and design. Experts in historical preservation collaborated with artists to ensure the mural remained true to its original form, balancing historical accuracy with the need for materials that could endure Lafayette’s climate. Fundraising efforts were supported by the community and local businesses, as residents saw the mural as a link to Lafayette’s early days. Once completed, the mural restoration became a celebrated landmark, connecting present-day Lafayette to its historic past and preserving it for future generations.
