Boulder’s Influence on Gordon Lightfoot: The Story of ‘10 Degrees and Getting Colder

Gordon Lightfoot, the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter, wove rich narratives that often drew from his experiences and the landscapes he encountered. One notable connection is with Boulder, Colorado, immortalized in his 1971 song “10 Degrees and Getting Colder.”

This track tells the poignant story of a wandering musician hitchhiking through the cold terrains near Boulder Dam, reflecting themes of solitude and the relentless pursuit of musical dreams.

Lightfoot’s relationship with Boulder wasn’t confined to his songwriting. He graced the city’s stages, notably performing at the Chautauqua Auditorium on July 18, 1998, and returning for another memorable concert on June 23, 2015, as part of his “50 Years on the Carefree Highway Tour.”
