Discovering the Lintels of Boulder’s Northern Neighbor: Is The Devil In The Details or On The Bench?
Lentils Are NOT The Same As Lintels!
I was looking at all directions at once and needed a chiropractor after the photo shoot. I could not resist, nor did I try hard, to publish more pictures of the astonishing details of this iconic courthouse. Attention was given to every detail. Even the moldings and railings are works of architectural art.
Colorado State Seal On The Rug Right In Front Of The “Bench,” Where The Judge Perches
What good is a courthouse article without courthouse lawyer stories? In older courthouses when things like windows and decor mattered, the state seal on the rug in front of the Judge’s Podium, “The Bench,” were not uncommon. Some judges had a “thing” about the seal on the floor. These decoration details were about three feet, one meter across. If a new lawyer was not a jerk (narrowing the field somewhat), one of the more experienced lawyers would warn them. “DO NOT STEP ON THE SEAL!” The Judge has a “thing.” When I was a baby lawyer in the last century making my first appearance in District (felony) Court, I was warned. Judge “D” was brilliant, wonderful, and knew that teaching lawyers was part of the job. What you did not want to be taught by the Judge was to not step on the seal. I had front row seats (reserved for lawyers) to see a young jerk lawyer step on Judge “D’s” seal. What a show!!! Fireworks on the 4th of July are dull and dim by comparison.
Even the lamps on the outside of the building are fun and beautiful! I believe I did promise “banisters.” If not, I certainly should have!
