Fresh Seafood in the Landlocked State of Colorado? That’s Right!
Fresh seafood isn’t what normally comes to mind when living in a landlocked state like Colorado. Luckily, though, Jax Fish House makes this dream a reality for those of us living in Boulder. Their motto is “Know seafood or no seafood”, serving fresh fish with a commitment to sustainable seafood. Of course, this means that you can expect that your entree may be a little pricier than your average seafood dish, but it’s well worth it. Not only are you eating more responsibly, helping to sustain the fishing industry in the long run, but you are also getting a better quality meal! For those of us who might not be able to swing $20 plus on an entree, Jax also offers a really great happy hour.
If you’re planning to stop by Jax for their happy hour, either be sure to get there when it starts (it runs daily from 4-6pm) or be prepared to wait for a table. This place can get packed!
So what’s on the menu for happy hour? They offer an array of appetizers, mostly seafood with a few land-based options (although, if you go to Jax and don’t get any seafood then you might as well have stayed home). Here you can get the classic Peel ‘N Eat Shrimp or an order of Calamari, both served with a side of their homemade sauces. And for just $5, You have the option of ordering Spicy Tuna, Steamed PEI Mussels or Jax’s Old School Gumbo. If you manage to snatch a table, be sure to ask your server for a fresh oyster on the half shell. At $1.25 each, you can even go ahead and spoil yourself with two or three or twelve. The Jax oyster bar is very impressive, displaying a wide variety of oysters at varying qualities and prices.
The happy hour drink menu is no less impressive than their food menu. The offer $1 off drafts, a $5 house wine (red, white or sparkling), and also have $2.50 cans of Miller High Life. Jax’s specialty mixed drinks are the highlight of their beverage menu. They include creative ingredients like green tea syrup and house infused alcohols to create unique and refreshing drinks.
If you’ve never been to Jax Fish House and this is the first you are hearing of them, then you’re learning about them in good timing. It is Oyster month for the entire month of March at Jax. They will have new specials and contests that make you eligible to win oysters for a year! We don’t have to go all the way to the coast to enjoy the treasures of the sea.
