Boulder Memorial Day Weekend Events
Although both the wind and rain are sticking around a bit longer this month, don’t let that hinder the possibility for shenanigans in Boulder County this Memorial Day weekend!
Saturday May 23
Start the afternoon off whimsically celebrating the five-year anniversary of The Carousel of Happiness, a non-profit, donor-funded organization that donates to those with special needs. Celebrate the attraction that has won hearts since being hand-carved and released to the public in 2010. Carousel games will be offered for children, as well as free birthday cake for all to share.
Scott Harrison, whose experience in the Vietnam War was the inspiration of the carousel, will be showing the public his new carvings, as well as hosting a special veteran’s tribute on Sunday at the celebration. There will be a gift shop and puppet theater, among other activities.
Time: 12pm
Cost: Free to attend. Rides are $1.00.
Location: Carousel of Happiness, Nederland.
Take advantage of the (somewhat) clear skies with a Sunset Photography Session at Rabbit Mountain. Ranger Fowler will be your guide and you will be given the best opportunities to photograph the sunset over Boulder County. Photos may be taken and submitted for the “Land Through the Lens Photography” Exhibit.
Time: 5pm
Cost: Free
Location: Rabbit Mountain Open Space Park, Longmont.
Do not miss the opportunity to attend the 10th Annual Bob Dylan Tribute Music & Art Show in Denver. There will be over 30 guest musicians performing the music of the legendary Bob Dylan, along with an acoustic intermission. If you haven’t seen Bob Dylan live, this is quite possibly the next best thing this side of the Rocky Mountains!
Time: 8pm
Cost: $10
Location: The Oriental Theater, Denver.
Sunday May 24
Explore the famous Pearl Street and enjoy some appetizers and cervezas while Centro provides the live music of Victor Mestas, featuring Gonzalo Teppa and Jonny Jyemo. Happy Hour specials will include $3 pints from The Post Brewing Company, as well as other drink and shot specials, along with nachos.
Time: Happy Hour from 2:30-6pm
Cost: Free
Location: Centro Latin Kitchen and Refreshment Palace, Boulder.
Don’t miss the chance to attend the infamous Denver Comic Con 2015, offering the most cosplay and gaming in one building for everyone to enjoy. Catch a glimpse of celebrities involved in, as well as part of, the various avenues of sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, and comic books, to name a few. All proceeds will be funding educational efforts put forth by the PCC.
Time: All day
Cost: $5-$150
