Welcome to the Faces of Boulder!
HELLO BOULDER, COLORADO! My name is Joseph Wirth and I am very proud to be one of the newest additions to the AboutBoulder.com photography team, and I also have an opportunity for all of you too.
My intentions while working with AboutBoulder can be summed up in one word: collaboration.
Essentially what I’ll be doing is shooting events around town and helping out some of our other bloggers with their articles, but I’ll also be a blogger for another project called The Faces of Boulder. With this project I’ll be going around the entire city and hiking trails shooting images of the people of Boulder in order to attempt to capture the personality of our city.
And that’s where Faces of Boulder begins to become collaborative. When I’m out in the streets, on the trails or in the parks and I’m shooting images of everybody it is my responsibility to get images that capture an individual’s personality, and that would be impossible if my subjects gave blank stares into my lenses. It’s up to EVERYONE to make this project a success and show people everywhere just how ambitious and fun we are here in Boulder.
It’s more than just putting on a goofy face or having fun with AboutBoulder photographers, though. Another intention of mine while working with AboutBoulder and creating the Faces of Boulder project is to create an interactive photography platform FOR EVERYONE to post their photography of their friends and others to our site.
I’ll make sure to get the ball rolling teaming up with friends of mine who are photographers to give you images of Boulder that will make you laugh and make you feel more connected with our community, but The Faces of Boulder will truly be successful once we are getting reader submissions and posting everyone’s photos of all of the beautiful faces of our town.
So, with this first post to AboutBoulder.com I took the initiative to bring along my first partner in crime, Travis Bildahl, who just happens to be a great photographer from the CU-Boulder Science in Film Department. Travis and I ventured all around Boulder for just one day and came across a variety of images that exemplify what it means to live here. This past weekend featured the Boulder Pride Festival and a lot of sunshine, so please enjoy these images and start taking your own pictures to join in on the fun!
