Description

…PROLONGED WINTER STORM CONTINUES THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING, EXPECT SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL IMPACTS FOR THIS EVENING’S COMMUTE…

A slow moving winter storm continues to impact the region with a final round of heavy snow this evening and overnight into Saturday. Heavy snow accumulations have already paralyzed traffic in east central Colorado including much of the I-70 Corridor around Limon and nearby points surrounding that.

Significant snow accumulations have also occurred across the Palmer Divide and southern Foothills and these areas will see another 6-12″ before it ends by sunrise tomorrow.

Additional heavy snow is spreading westward across the plains and into the foothills this afternoon and evening. The heaviest snow will occur this evening across the I-25 urban corridor, leading to poor travel conditions during rush hour. 6-14″ of snow is expected across metro Denver/Boulder.

Further north from Fort Collins-Loveland-Greeley to Fort Morgan, heavy snow is also possible but temperatures will be warmer and impacts to travel are expected tob e less. 3-6″ are possible in this corridor though could be higher especially the further south of US-34 you go.

Travel will be difficult to impossible east and southeast of Denver. The afternoon/evening commute will be hazardous with heavy snow and ice/snow covered roads across most of the area.

* WHAT…Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 5 and 12 inches.

* WHERE…The Southern Front Range Foothills, Boulder and the western suburbs of Denver, Denver, Castle Rock, and Byers.

* WHEN…Until noon MST Saturday.

* IMPACTS…Travel will be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute.
