November 5th, 2020
faces of boulder_ret taylor

On the patio of the Highland City Club in the heart of Boulder, I enjoyed a meal with Ret Taylor. Vines covered the brick surrounding us and a waterfall on the periphery provided background music – components that felt increasingly relevant as our conversation progressed. Ret operates two businesses from the Highlands’ third floor co-working space. He attended CU Boulder but left Boulder for nearly 15 years after graduating in 2001. From humble beginnings, Ret’s early aspirations were cultivated from a perception that success and money were one in the same. He chased dollar signs all over... Read More

U.S. to Spend $3 Million on Research for CBD and Pain

June 21st, 2020

The U.S. government intends on spending $3 million on research for CBD; none of the money will be spent on the THC counterpart which gets you high. Nine research grants have been approved that research CBD in everything from food to beauty products, along with some other lesser known chemicals, but THC was specifically excluded from the funding. Many find this to be an incomplete analysis of marijuana and pain management, as it is still unclear exactly what part of the plant may be helpful in pain management. This also inhibits the ability to discover whether pain can be managed without the intoxicating... Read More

Two Sides of the Same Cannabis: Comparing THC and CBD

May 10th, 2020

Featured Photo Credit: Best CBD Oil Though cannabis plays host to at least 85 different cannabinoids, there are two who tend to grab the most time in the spotlight: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). You’ve probably heard talk—or formed opinions yourself through careful research of your own—about preferences of marijuana users for certain strains that give them that amazing head high or, conversely, those who prefer a nice, mellow body buzz. These differences can be attributed to the makeup of a particular strain and its ratios of THC to CBD. Beyond the effect these two cannabinoids... Read More

Hemp, the helpful kin of cannabis!

May 4th, 2020

We indulge in the latest information on cannabis strains, concentrates, and edibles, but we often lose sight of the counter-culture of hemp, the tame and useful cousin of cannabis.  Remember, it’s up to us to educate our peers, parents, and the nay sayers on the benefits and logic of this banned miracle plant. June 1st, 2019

Earlier this week, the Federal Appeals Court reinstated the complaint and declined to dismiss the Federal Cannabis Lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed by several cannabis patients and advocates challenging the federal scheduling of cannabis. According to a comment by their legal representation Michael Hiller, “This case represents the first time in history that a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the CSA has survived dismissal.” This is amazing news for those advocating for the de-scheduling of cannabis. This means the court put the federal government on notice to make a decision for... Read More

CBD for Eye Health

April 27th, 2019

Research on CBD and eye health has been fairly limited due to federal legality, but the passing of the 2018 United States Farm Bill removed CBD from its classification as a Schedule 1 Drug. This will lead to more freedom in the ability to conduct more studies. The research that has been conducted shows both pros and cons for CBD as related to eye health. CBD is one of several cannabinoids produced in cannabis. Cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system by binding to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in a most commonly analogized lock and key method. According to researchers at the School... Read More
