Epilepsy Awareness Month

November 3rd, 2018

As many of you know, I have epilepsy.  Last month I celebrated being 18 months seizure free! I started having grand mal seizures when I was a teenager. I had several tests, but the doctors could not find out what was causing them. The medical professionals told me I could have multiple seizures every day for the rest of my life or never have another one again and there was no way to tell what my future held. This is one of the reasons I try to live each day to the fullest and not let my condition stop me from doing things I want to do in life.  Knowing that I am one of 65 million people affected... Read More

This week I went on the My 420 Tours Denver cannabis grow and dispensary tour at Euflora.  We arrived at the My 420 Tours offices and signed in for the experience. Guests were invited to try the CBD infused coffee before the tour began. Once we were all accounted for, we got on the tour bus, which was stocked with grinders, papers and everything needed to smoke some herb! The tour guide also made sure everyone knew the waters were complimentary and he encouraged everyone to drink as much as possible because everyone was from lower elevation out of state. It was very interesting to see where everyone... Read More

Hemp Houses for Health – 5 Reasons Why Hemp Houses are the Way to Go

September 22nd, 2018

The average person spends 95% of their life indoors. This is the first time in history that individuals have been so disconnected from the planet and confined inside our schools, workplaces and homes. The buildings we spend our time in are often full of toxins such as pesticides, molds and several other harmful fumes from furniture, paint and carpet adhesives. With many taking their overall health and wellness into consideration, using a healthier building material, such as hempcrete, may be a perfect solution. Hempcrete is a building material made from industrial hemp fibers mixed with lime. It... Read More

January 13th, 2018

Athletes train and fuel their bodies to operate at optimal levels in their sport. CBD is the non psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It is a non toxic, natural option that provides multiple mental and physical benefits. The recent announcement by the WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) to remove CBD from the banned substance list in 2018 provides a safer option to many athletes. With athletes and individuals allowed to consume CBD legally in all 50 states, it is diminishing the stigma surrounding cannabis and its users. It has the potential to provide a better quality of life when provided as... Read More

This Saturday: New Colorado Holiday to Celebrate Value of Public Lands!

May 16th, 2017

There is a great respect and appreciation for the public land here in Colorado, and the majority of Colorado voters in 2016 “opposed efforts to turn national public lands over to the state.” (Conservation Colorado 2016). With this sentiment in mind, Colorado made itself the first state to create a holiday focused on appreciating the benefits received from public land. Be one of the first to celebrate this holiday on this coming Saturday, the 20th of May, as it will be the one of the first celebrations ever of Colorado’s New Public Lands Day! Colorado’s public land holds great value and... Read More

The Great Health Food Takeover: How 1908 Brands Plans to Take Back the Grocery Shelves with Healthy, Eco-friendly Products

January 27th, 2017

All my life, leading up to early this week, I thought eating healthy was hard. There are hundreds of diets out there, from Mariah Carey’s ‘eating only purple shade food’ to Atkins, each with its own bag of tricks and snake oil, promising easy weight loss and health benefits. And then there are those food labels; the tiny black ink consumers are encouraged to read. When the ingredients on the back of the package read “Sodium Benzoate” and “Butylated Hydroxyanisole,” it may as well be written in a foreign language. But then I discovered 1908 Brands, a Boulder-based company that develops... Read More

It’s Not Easy Being Green: Seeking a Sustainable Profit

May 1st, 2016

Businesses are frequently forced to make the difficult choice between practicing environmentally friendly behavior and the pursuit of profit; conflict between being sustainable and being profitable means that one of the two will often be ignored. However, recently, it seems that businesses’ interests in profit and planet are becoming more compatible and less of a trade-off. Here are five reasons why businesses have not just the environmental, but also the economic incentive to go green: Solving for Scarcity Earth is a finite planet, and there are mathematically a finite number of natural resources... Read More

Five Benefits of Buying Locally

April 17th, 2016

Throughout Colorado and the United States, there has been an ongoing economic movement away from corporate channels of distribution, and towards local businesses; as a result, the small, locally owned business is experiencing a sort of 21st Century renaissance. By operating on economies of scale, corporations are able to offer lower prices, but in a city such as Boulder, where household income is well above the national average, the benefits of buying locally vastly outweigh the comparatively minimal price differences. Here are five important benefits of buying locally: Economic Stability            ... Read More

New Uses for Colorado Beetle Kill are Cheap and Eco-Friendly

January 5th, 2015

The Mountain Pine Beetles have been a prevalent issue for forests across North America for roughly a decade; however, new uses for the large number of trees that Beetles have killed have proven an affordable raw material for producing a variety of goods.   “Only [seven] years ago, industry believed little could be done with it apart from artistic or cosmetic uses for wood, which was being marketed as ‘denim pine.’ Traditional uses of pine, in construction and elsewhere, were considered impossible for beetle-kill wood”. – The Sustainable Lumber Company While builders... Read More
