Snow-snow-snow! The best way to dive into winter is getting out and exploring the snowy backcountry of Colorado. Jay spent his Saturday afternoon taking a break from classes, and climbing high in Rocky Mountain National Park. Winter is here! What better way to celebrate the arrival of snow then going our for a day in the flatirons? Mark spent his day embracing the cold in style, throwing on layers and finding deep snow in the backcountry. This is his third winter here in Colorado, and his first in Boulder. Before winter crept into the foothills, Matthew spent the afternoon hiking in the flatirons. Only days before snow blanketed the forest, he made sure to squeeze in one final late fall hike. The snow doesn’t bother him however, because he is an avid backcountry skier. As the snow accumulates in Rocky Mountain National Park, he will soon be heading out to catch some fresh powder. Snow, snow, and more snow! As the flakes keep falling, it’s the perfect time to grab a sled and hit the smaller slopes of Boulder. Or in this case, the Flatirons! Rick insist, “if you are hiking all the way up, might as well sled down.” Well, mind blown Rick. Brilliant! Next time I find myself hiking in the snow, I’ll grab the old sled on my way out and make my descent far more entertaining.  Read More

Winter is here! With the first big snow bringing in the accumulation, Boulder residents are finding their way outside for fun winter activities. This young man threw on his layers and found some time to hike around in backcountry. His favorite part about being in nature in winter time? “The silence, and peaceful quite that snow brings into nature. Everything is so quite, and things are so still. Meet Matt! A traveling adventurer, Matt shifts through all his gear preparing for a day hiking in the flatirons. He spent the summer guiding on Mt. Shasta in California, but came to spend the fall/winter here in Colorado. He loves skiing in Colorado’s beautiful backcountry, and takes advantage of Boulder’s easy access to wilderness areas surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park.  Read More

Summit of the Week! This week, Jordan, a fulltime student reaches the summit of an unnamed peak in the Flatirons. After spending the afternoon hiking trails near Green Mountain, he took the opportunity to scramble up a nearby peak. Meet Christine! Originally from Germany, she was driving through Boulder on a cross country trip with her husband. They spent the day bouldering in the Flatirons behind this beautiful city. In this picture she looks up as her husband ascends a tricky route on Mt. Sanitas. Only here for a few days, the couple enjoyed hiking and eating at restaurants here in Boulder! Meet Nick! He spent the day summiting Bear Peak, before heading back down for a microbrew in Boulder. This was his first time reaching the top of Bear, and his favorite portion of his hike was going off trail and scrambling up the rock face. Its time to LARP! (Live Action Role-play)  With foam swords and padded arrows, these guys rush into battle dressed in the regalia of ancient warriors. “It the closest thing we get to real combat, without dying” commented a knight dressed in plastic armor. These guys meet weekly in Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins locations simply for the thrill of battle. Appointing an ‘uphill’ and ‘downhill’ team, they charge one another and battle until one side is declared the winner! Then they simply reset and compete again. This fulltime student took a break from studying to get out and enjoy the beautiful countryside Colorado has to offer. After hiking a trail in the Flatirons, he decided to go off route and scramble up a fallen tree. Climb Time! Oh yes, what a lovely way to spend the day. These four climbers were found in the Flatirons ascending this pitch of 5.6 sport. All Colorado natives, these climbers drove into town to check out what sport routes Boulder had to offer. Meet Andy and Domenic! These two Ohio natives came into town to experience the Rocky Mountains and Colorado’s vibrant culture. They landed in Denver, and immediately caught a cab to a friends house here in Boulder. Dispensaries and mountains were top on their list, and they visited both. Meet Coda! This fulltime student enjoys hiking, camping, and exploring the backcountry of Colorado. His favorite hobby is snowboarding and spending time out in nature. He spent the first couple of weeks this summer hiking the Colorado Trail, beginning just outside of Denver. By beginning in mid May, he quickly ran into snow in the lost creek wilderness and had to cut his hike short.
