Butterflies present special focus challenges. They sometimes hang out posing for a  long time. More typically they do not stop moving. Put a moving flying butterfly on a flower and you have an autofocus challenge beyond compare. The depth of the flower and the parts of the flower confuse the autofocus on the camera. They are not holding still, so following them to take a picture is generally impossible

A strategy that sometimes works, here with mixed results, is to set up on a flower where you’ve seen some land already, get your focus set, and wait. As always, waiting is hard!

The Great Spangled Fritillary, or Aphrodite Fritillary, as with So Many Butterflies, has a GREAT Name!

They also present, especially on a flower like this one, a great focus challenge! I remain challenged!

Pacuvious Dusty Wing, or Erynnus Pacuvious,presents unique ID challenges. It looks just like many others

Then there’s the Small Heath. It looks just like a Small Heath! Trust Me. I think.

Beyond being “Fritillaries” I’m not sure what these cuties have in common. Google ID assures me of this.
