Boulder’s Dog of the Day: Goldie Conquers One of Boulder’s Favorite Peaks

Some dogs are happy with a walk around the neighborhood. Others live for the trail. Goldie clearly belongs in the second category.

Captured high above Boulder with tongue out and eyes locked on the horizon, today’s Dog of the Day looks completely at home on one of the area’s most breathtaking summits. With the wind moving through the grasses and the Front Range stretching endlessly behind, Goldie radiates the pure excitement that only a mountain-loving dog understands.

Boulder has long been known as a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, and that includes four-legged adventurers. From steep climbs to rolling foothills, the region offers countless peaks that dogs and their humans return to again and again. Judging by this moment alone, Goldie has clearly found one favorite.

Many local dogs love testing themselves on trails like Bear Peak, one of Boulder’s most challenging climbs, where rocky switchbacks reward hikers with sweeping summit views. Others prefer Green Mountain, a steady and scenic ascent with wide-open stretches perfect for curious noses and quick breaks in the shade. Sanitas remains another favorite thanks to its accessibility, steady elevation gain, and nonstop energy from sunrise to sunset.

Then there are the quieter options. Trails around Flagstaff Mountain and the foothills offer peaceful alternatives with fewer crowds and just as much beauty. For dogs like Goldie, every peak brings something new — different scents carried by the wind, new terrain underfoot, and endless space to explore.

What stands out most in today’s photo is the joy. Goldie’s expression says everything about why Boulder is such a special place for dogs. Out here, it’s not about speed or distance. It’s about movement, curiosity, and the simple thrill of being outside.

Moments like this are why Boulder continues to earn its reputation as one of the most dog-friendly cities in the country. Whether climbing a rugged summit or strolling a mellow trail, Boulder dogs remind us daily how good life feels when you slow down, look around, and breathe in the mountain air.

Today, Goldie reminds us that sometimes the best views are even better when shared with a dog who loves the journey as much as the destination.
