Meet Lily and Penny: Two Best Friends Living Their Best Life in Boulder’s Top Dog Parks

Today’s Boulder’s Dogs of the Day are Lily and Penny, two best friends who’ve turned North Boulder’s dog parks into their own personal playground. These two pups are inseparable—from sunny morning strolls to afternoon playtime at the park, Lily and Penny embody everything we love about Boulder’s vibrant dog culture.

Lily is a golden retriever with a gentle soul and a heart as big as the Flatirons. She’s all about the slow roll: greeting fellow pups with a wag and spending time lounging in the grass, soaking up Boulder’s endless sunshine. Penny, on the other hand, is a feisty little beagle mix with boundless energy and a nose that’s always on a mission. Together, they balance each other out perfectly—calm meets curiosity, chill meets chase.

Their favorite hangout? Valmont Dog Park—a North Boulder classic. With its wide-open spaces, friendly crowd, and plenty of room to run, it’s the go-to spot for off-leash freedom and socialization. Penny loves chasing tennis balls and making new dog friends, while Lily can usually be found trotting around the perimeter, sniffing out the best shady spots and greeting familiar faces.

Another favorite is Howard Heuston Park, where they can take leisurely walks on the path with their humans and enjoy some quiet sniffing time. It’s a peaceful, low-key park where Lily gets to bask in the sun and Penny gets to track down every squirrel in sight.

What makes Boulder such a perfect place for dogs like Lily and Penny? It’s the culture. Boulderites treat dogs like family, and the city is designed with four-legged friends in mind—off-leash parks, pet-friendly cafes, hiking trails, and even dog boutiques filled with locally made treats and gear. It’s no wonder Lily and Penny thrive here.

In Boulder, dogs grow up happy, healthy, and social. With daily access to nature, clean air, and friendly people (and pets), pups like Lily and Penny learn how to play, explore, and live life to the fullest. It’s not just about the parks—it’s about the love, freedom, and community that Boulder brings to every tail wag.

So today, we celebrate Lily and Penny—North Boulder’s dynamic duo. Whether they’re racing through the grass or lounging side-by-side after a long walk, they remind us what friendship, fun, and fresh air look like in one of the dog-friendliest cities in America.
