Coot Lake: A Canine Paradise in Every Season
Located just north of Boulder, Coot Lake is a serene 40-acre natural area cherished by outdoor enthusiasts and their canine companions. With trails that loop around the lake, breathtaking views of the Flatirons, and dog-friendly access to the water, it’s a spot that shines in every season.

Why Mikey Loves Coot Lake
Today’s spotlight is on Mikey, a wise and lovable senior dog who adores his visits to Coot Lake. On snowy winter days, Mikey enjoys exploring the trails at a relaxed pace, taking in the crisp air and the peaceful surroundings. The soft crunch of snow under his paws and the occasional friendly greeting from other dogs make this one of his favorite times of year.

In the summer, Coot Lake offers Mikey a chance to cool off and soak up the sunshine. While his swimming days may be fewer now, he still relishes wading into the water to enjoy the gentle waves or relax on the shoreline, watching younger dogs splash and play. For Mikey, Coot Lake is a sanctuary where he can savor the outdoors at his own pace, year after year.

A Little History of Coot Lake
Once a gravel pit, Coot Lake was transformed into a cherished natural space, embodying Boulder’s dedication to preserving its outdoor treasures. It’s now a multi-use area where visitors can fish, picnic, birdwatch, and, of course, enjoy quality time with their dogs. It has been a favorite for local dog owners for many years.

Fun Fact
Coot Lake is named for the American coots often spotted there. These aquatic birds are just one of the many species that thrive in this peaceful habitat.
