CU Boulder Family Weekend 2025: Saturday & Sunday Highlights

Family Weekend at the University of Colorado Boulder is in full swing, and the best is still ahead. With Saturday and Sunday packed with signature events, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the campus, connect with your Buff, and soak in Boulder’s community spirit.

Whether you’re starting bright and early on Saturday morning or closing the weekend with Sunday’s sendoff, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your time.

Saturday, September 20: Game Day Energy

Saturday is the crown jewel of Family Weekend, capped off by the Buffs football showdown with Wyoming. If you’re hitting campus around 7:00 a.m., you’ll have the whole day to explore before kickoff.

Morning & Midday Ideas

  • Arrive early for parking. Lots around campus and Folsom Field fill up fast. Beating the rush means less stress later.

  • Fuel up Boulder-style. Start the day at a local café for coffee and breakfast before the action begins.

  • Walk the campus. A stroll through Norlin Quad or along the Flatirons foothills is a peaceful way to kick off game day.

Afternoon Highlights

  • Family Tailgate (Silver & Gold Packages). The tailgate offers Buffs pride, great food, and a chance to mingle with other families.

  • Campus tours. If you prefer a calmer activity, explore CU’s rich history and architecture with a walking tour before the stadium fills.

Evening Showdown

  • CU Buffs vs. Wyoming at Folsom Field — Kickoff 8:15 p.m. MT. Gates open at 6:00 p.m., and the energy is electric well before kickoff. Wear your black and gold, bring your clear game-day bag, and get ready to roar alongside thousands of Buffs fans. (CU Buffs schedule)

Sunday, September 21: Family Farewell

Sunday wraps up the weekend with events that bring families and students together one last time.

  • Buffalo Stampede 5K Fun Run (9–10:30 a.m.). A spirited way to start the morning, whether you’re running, walking, or cheering.

  • Buffs Family Sendoff (Silver & Gold Packages). From about 9:30 a.m. to noon, families gather for a final celebration before saying goodbye. It’s a warm and memorable close to a weekend full of Buffs pride. (CU Boulder Family Weekend)

Pro Tips for Saturday & Sunday

  • Dress in layers. Colorado mornings can be cool, afternoons warm, and evenings chilly again.

  • Plan meals in advance. Boulder’s restaurants fill quickly during Family Weekend. Consider reservations or explore hidden gems highlighted on aboutboulder.com.

  • Show Buff pride. Black and gold gear is a must — the bookstore is fully stocked if you need more.

  • Stay flexible. Some of the best memories come from spontaneous moments — a walk through Pearl Street Mall, a coffee stop, or an impromptu photo with the Flatirons in the background.

Closing Note

If you thought you’d missed Family Weekend, think again — Saturday and Sunday are the heart of the celebration. From the thrill of game day at Folsom Field to Sunday’s family-friendly 5K and sendoff, there’s still plenty to experience.

Arrive early, cheer loud, and soak in every moment. Go Buffs!
