CU Buffs Head to the Alamo Bowl for a Prime Time Showdown with BYU

CU Boulder football has earned its spot in the Alamo Bowl, marking a thrilling moment for the Buffs under Coach Deion Sanders’ leadership. On December 28, Colorado will face BYU in San Antonio in a prime-time matchup that brings two Rocky Mountain programs together for the first time in 36 years.

After an incredible 9-3 season, the Buffs were the first pick from the former Pac-12 teams eligible for the bowl game. Their opponent, BYU (10-2), enters the Alamo Bowl as the first non-playoff team selected from the Big 12. Both teams enjoyed standout seasons and were part of a four-way tie for first place in the Big 12, making this matchup one of the most exciting games of the postseason.

The last time Colorado and BYU met was in the 1988 Freedom Bowl, a tightly contested game that ended in a 20-17 victory for BYU, despite two touchdowns from CU legend Eric Bieniemy. This year, both teams bring high-powered offenses and passionate fanbases to the table, ensuring a memorable showdown in San Antonio.

“We are so happy,” Coach Deion Sanders said during the Alamo Bowl announcement. “You have no idea how appreciative we are.” His leadership has brought a remarkable turnaround for CU football, with the Buffs proving they are a force to be reckoned with in the “Prime Time” era.

CU fans are eagerly anticipating the Alamo Bowl, ready to cheer their team on as they cap off a historic season. This game isn’t just about competition—it’s about celebrating how far the program has come and looking forward to an even brighter future for Colorado football.
