Boulder’s Own Boulderwood: RALLY CAPS! Another Fine Film from Boulderites

Boulderites have done it again! Local film maker power duo Lee Cipolla and wife-producer Katherine Borda have brought us the soon-to-be-released Rally Caps, dropping on Apple and Amazon TV on September 10, 2024! We were lucky enough to score a pair of tickets to the sneak preview in Boulder (thank you Mr. Director) this past weekend.

It is my honor to present my first “official” movie review. Tim Brennan, our professional movie reviewer, has nothing to worry about! I call my series of movie reviews:  SPOILER AHEAD REVIEWS © 2024

Aside from knowing the name of the movie, we were totally in the dark. “Totally in the dark,” in my opinion, was perfect since we were, after all, going to see a movie! We were going into the theater totally ignorant, knowing no more than that the movie featured Judd Hirsch, and Amy Smart. Generally, knowing the name of a movie, ruins it for me. Check out the  Rally Caps Official Trailer. Rally Caps is based on the novel of the same name written by Stephen J. Cutler and Jodi Michelle Cutler.

Led by Carson Minniear, the young teens attending a baseball camp are the heart of this feature film. These teen actors are talented! Perfectly suited for Motivational Monday, the film is uplifting, positive, and motivational while avoiding being sappy and while sidestepping being a movie “for kids.” This is fare for the entire family, and is also perfect for an “any age” first date.

Katherine Borda, Producer, and Lee Cipolla, Director

Rally Caps is a fulfilling family film in the best senses of the phrase “family film.”  Directed by our own Lee Cipolla and produced by his wife, film maker Katherine Borda, the movie has strong Boulder roots. Our sneak preview audience featured many of the younger actors including Carson Minniear’s stunt double, Boulder actor William Saunders as well as local actor Patrick Mccoy (with a story of his own).

Mr. Hirsch and Ms. Smart delivered consummate professional performances as anticipated.  We were to learn that the younger actors, the bulk of the cast and at the center of the plot, were the reel stars of this film.

Director  Lee Cipolla: Another Great Boulderite Hits One Out Of The Park!

Multiple choice pre-test: The movie involves a 1) double play 2) a triple play 3) a home run 4) a close-call play at home, and 5) an out-of-the-park home run. NO answer key will be provided. You’ll have to see the movie. And you WILL be entertained! This heartwarming tale takes us  on a trip through early maturing experiences without torturing us with the pain of the path the actors must take. Even the pain of growing is lovingly presented. I personally loved the pacing of the movie. Coming in at safely under two hours, I did not fall asleep even once! For me that is good. In part I attribute that to brilliant editing. Using classic techniques, the movie demonstrated just why this approach IS classic!
