FLASHBACK: OMG, OMG, OMG! Puppies! Kittens! Doggie Dash 2015 is Coming Up Fast! — Boulder Gives

Puppies! Kittens! Cute old man and lady dogs! Jumping, playing, eating treats, peeing on fire-hydrants, scratching yarn covered posts and licking all the faces. The Boulder Humane Society is a place for joy to take hold and a place where love first starts. To quote the famous poet Bob Merrill, “How much is that doggie in the window? The one with the waggly tail. How much is that doggie in the window?
I do hope that doggie’s for sale.”

Yet, for all the ease of going to the Boulder Humane Society to adopt a new love muffin, there is equal parts maintenance to ensure these little guys and gals get regular vaccinations, undergo any medical treatments, get the necessary behavior classes, and get fed and watered everyday. Thanks to the stable of volunteers and the dedicated staff of BVHS, these are done with the upmost affection and care.

Melt your heart! Doesn't this look like the face of something you'd love to help?

I sat down with Lisa Pederson, CEO of BVHS, to have a chat about the upcoming Doggie Dash on September12th. In the 26th year of the event, Lisa and BVHS hope that this 2 mile fun run around the Boulder Reservoir will attract 500 to 700 people and their furry friends. This year will be no exception to the previous, “This is a family friendly event with lots of activities that….creates relationships between animals and people.” Whole Foods will be sponsoring with a Pancake Breakfast for the participants and spectators. Having a craving for a cold brew? There will be a beer garden there as well. Lisa explained to me that, “Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the Humane Society. We are blessed to be here in Boulder….but, as successful as we are, we have 7500 animals each year.” The summer is a particular high volume time of animals arriving at the Humane Society, as well adoptions. Summer therefore, is an even higher need season as all of these new animals require resources so that these pups and kits are given the best treatment available. As well, Lisa explained that BVHS is always looking for Foster families that are willing to foster an animal in the hopes of finding them “…their perfect family.” This means the Boulder Valley Humane Society cannot do it without your help!

Pancakes people! Go and eat some pancakes even if you aren't running; perhaps even support someone morally and monetarily who has registered for the run.
