Pic of the Day! – Baby Owls In Boulder
The majority of baby owls are exceptionally fluffy, with a thick coat of white or grey down. They have heart-shaped heads and black button-like circular eyes. The fluff has a hook-shaped beak protruding from it. In addition, baby owls have a prominent egg tooth, a sharp protrusion from their beak that allows them to pierce the egg as it is hatching. Within a week of hatching, these are gone.
Some newborn owls have an unusual appearance, particularly Barn owls, which have lengthy faces that contrast with their white fluffy bodies.
