Record Breaking Animal Evacuations in Boulder County as Fires Continue to Spread
As the Calwood Fire approached 9000 Acres burned, more and more fallout can be seen, including among the livestock taking refuge at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. What is being called the ‘Largest Animal Evacuation in Boulder’s History,’ more than 500 animals, including pigs, horses, sheep and goats are taking refuge at the fairgrounds as their previous homes burn. Even more heartbreaking, the fairgrounds didn’t have the capacity for the amount of animal refugees looking for a place to shelter, and had to be turned away.
