Kristen Rea

Kristen is a writer, filmmaker, and author of the children’s book Timmy the Button. She is a self-professed foodie and carries a deep pride for Colorado’s craft beer scene. Born and raised in Colorado, Kristen’s wanderlust and love for the outdoors came at an early age while camping and hiking with her family in Colorado’s Flat Tops. After graduating with a BA in English and Screenwriting from Azusa Pacific University, and after a short stint in West Hollywood, she returned to Colorado and fell in love all-over again with the hiking trails near Boulder. When Kristen isn’t enjoying the outdoors, you can find her at a live show, tucked away in a writing corner, hanging out with her band, or enjoying a sunny spot in the city with good food, drink, and friends. Check out more of her writing on her personal blog www.kristen-rea.com and find Timmy the Button at Boulder Bookstore, all Tattered Cover locations, BookBar, Powell’s City of Books in Portland, and online.

On one hand, it provides everything from the raw material for food—sunlight driving photosynthesis, wind the primary method of plants spreading their seeds—to …

Sometimes, writing about art and theater feels a lot like falling down the proverbial rabbit hole as I try to find the angle to write about wandering through a haunted-theater immersive experience, getting splashed in a Halloween horror show in the basement of a spaghetti emporium, sweating through a DIY D&D in a comic shop, savoring (har har!) Sweeney Todd’s enraged high notes, and trying to quiet my howling dog in a public house. I’ve found myself in some odd and awkward scenarios. To update the metaphor, writing this column is a lot like drunk-clicking through an endless algorithm o…

North Table Mountain is in Golden, Colorado which technically isn’t a part of Boulder County, but this beautiful hiking trail is only 30 minutes from Boulder and definitely worthy of being this week’s Hike of the Week for its spectacular views of the Denver metro area, unique rock formations, and location along the scenic highway CO-93. North Table Mountain is classified as a mesa and recognized by its lava flow rock formation sides making it a favorite spot for students of the local Colorado School of Mines and geology enthusiasts to frequent.
