March 22nd, 2023

Boulder, Colorado is a fantastic place for barbecue restaurants due to its unique combination of climate, culture, and geography. The region’s moderate temperatures, ample sunshine, and low humidity create ideal conditions for outdoor grilling, smoking, and roasting. This makes it easy for local chefs and pitmasters to perfect their craft and create truly outstanding barbecue dishes. Furthermore, Boulder has a vibrant and diverse food scene that embraces both traditional and innovative approaches to cooking. This means that barbecue restaurants in the area have the freedom to experiment with... Read More

Flashback Friday 2017 ~ 24 Years of Avery!

August 2nd, 2022

Looking for something local to do this Saturday? Celebrate the Avery Brewing Company’s 24th anniversary with some good tunes and plenty of beers. Avery Brewing has been around since it was established in 1993 by Adam Avery and his father, Larry. Their beers have pleased the mouths of locals for years, but now they have spread beyond Boulder. Just when I was living in Boston, I was introduced to what is now my go-to beer, Avery’s White Rascal. They’ve even crossed U.S. borders, selling their Boulder brews in Sweden and Japan! Clearly, there’s a lot to celebrate, so why not... Read More

Fill Your Calendar with Avery Events

May 19th, 2017

Summer is just around the corner even if mother nature threw some cold, wet weather at us this week and it’s shaping up to be a busy season for the folks over at Avery Brewing Company! Starting the summer off right (even if the ground is still wet from the late season snow day yesterday), the Real Peel IPA is being released today. Promising to be a crisp, refreshing twist on the classic IPA, tangerine peels used during the brewing process will add some citrus and zest. Sounds perfect for warm evenings grilling out on the patio! For those of you who are as excited as me about all of the new sour... Read More

National Beer Day at 70 Degrees—What Better Friday is There?

April 7th, 2017

Happy National Beer Day, you beer lover, you! We in Boulder couldn’t ask for more beautiful weather to celebrate this most beloved of national holidays. If you ask me, when the temperature starts inching up near the 70’s but stays well below the 80’s, that is the perfect time to crack open an IPA. It’s not so cold that you want to curl up inside with a smoky stout or chocolate porter but not so hot you need to cool down with an easy-drinking saison or light lager. The IPA has been steadily growing as a classic as well as experimental form in the Colorado craft beer scene for a number of... Read More

What’s Your Favorite Shade Of Beer? Let’s Test A Few!

March 26th, 2016

As you all know, the varieties of beer available to us are endless.  Beers come with different taste profiles, ABV levels, ingredients, and shades.  How are you ever supposed to know what you’ll like?  People tend to stray away from the desire to try a new beer when they are unfamiliar with what’s being offered.  People may think, “Oh, that beer is so dark, it will make me feel sick.” Or “Why is the alcohol content so high?” After the ABV%, I think that beer shade is the next most intimidating characteristic when choosing which of many options will... Read More

Boulder Says “Goodbye!” to Avery Brewing Company

February 15th, 2015
Avery Brewing Company Boulder

In all honesty, it’s definitely one of the strangest places for a taproom. It’s the kind of place, the first few times you visit, you’re certain you’ve made a wrong turn. The mangled corpses of wrecked cars line your path, delving further from the street, and deeper into this strange hodgepodge of commercial buildings. Of course, the iconic capital “A” shines on one unassuming building, and it’s perhaps at that point you notice the massive fermentation vessels lining the street. Avery Brewing Company has been a Boulder institution for nearly 22 years;... Read More

Straight from the Source: Boulder Breweries

February 13th, 2015

After a long week, sometimes it’s nice to just kick back and relax with a nice pint of beer. Luckily, Boulder has a handful of microbreweries that also offer some pretty stellar happy hours. Twisted Pine Brewing Company is quickly growing to become one of my favorite spots for a cold brew. Located just behind The Spot, it is tucked away from the chaos of downtown Boulder. When you pull into their parking lot, a smell of barley and hops wafts through the air, quickly reassuring you in your decision to come to Twisted Pine. On top of their unique selection of year-round beer, including their famous... Read More
