Confessions of A Movie-Loving Budtender

March 22nd, 2023

My first recommendation is The Matrix, because it literally changed the film world and spawned tons of rip-offs for years after it was made. I also believe this movie is meant to be watched while high, the blu-ray should come with a pre-rolled joint. The Matrix is a futuristic sci-fi film about a hacker who can jump between two realities. Even twenty years later the movie still looks better than most of the new films coming out. Not only are the visuals and the story cool, nothing is funnier than about halfway through the movie when Keanu Reeves’ character Neo watches Morpheus jump across a building... Read More

What Is Your Favorite Strain?

January 30th, 2023

I am going to be honest with you, I really like weed. It smells nice, it tastes good, and its effects are enjoyable too. It is so lovely when you are not expecting it and you get hit with the aroma of cannabis.  When I walk into work in the mornings all I can smell are the grow facilities. The HVAC fans must kick on around the time I arrive because my walk into work from the parking lot every morning is a feast for my senses. I also love the way weed tastes, every strain has such a unique flavor. All cannabis is my favorite, I may prefer this strain over that strain but if you ever catch me saying... Read More

You Can’t Make This Stuff Up! Cannabis tales to share…

January 14th, 2023

It’s true, you can’t make this stuff up! The cannabis culture is colorful and full of interesting facts and fallacies. Here are a few facts that may tickle your funny bone or leave you scratching your head in confusion. Pot for Sale Online in 1971. The very first online purchase was an undisclosed amount of marijuana between students at two prestigious colleges.  In the early 70’s,  long before eBay and Amazon, students at Stanford University using Arpanet accounts at Stanford University’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, engaged in a commercial transaction with their buddies... Read More

Confession of a Boulder Budtender

December 8th, 2022

This week I was criticized by a reader for not offering a true “confession” like the title of this blog suggests. Alright I have a reader! The thing is though, there is not much to expose about being a budtender. There are no secrets that need uncovering, no whistleblowing that needs doing, and no oppressive leader that needs toppling. I am not an investigative journalist up here to call out the weed industry for their abuses of power, I am just a dude who works in a weed shop. “Breaking News! Nobody likes strains that are low in THC, more on this story next week”. I like to make fun of... Read More

A Grow Facility Field Trip

July 16th, 2022

Cannabis blogging seems to have its perks. Last weekend I went on my first ever writing assignment. I visited Colorado Springs to check out some grow facilities and meet some investors who have plans for a much larger facility. What I got was a weekend with a bunch of young cannabis reporters and a group of questionable investors who showed a guy a pretty good time. Saturday started out with a fat joint of the Scott’s OG. Just what the doctor ordered on this crisp morning to relieve the stress and anxiety of the previous five days. Through a cloudy haze of morning weed smoke, we cruised south... Read More

Cannabis Is Not Alcohol

April 22nd, 2022

As the budtender, I get in a lot of conversations about why cannabis should be legal. One common argument made is that cannabis should be legal because alcohol is legal. To start with, marijuana should not be legal just because another thing is legal. Marijuana, oops I mean cannabis, should be legal because it is a benefit for humans. We all understand why this argument gets made though, alcohol and cannabis are both substances that get you a little impaired and can affect your judgment. In our society, they are two of our social norms for changing the mindset and relaxing, but they are very different... Read More

Teaching Your Parents About Cannabis

February 17th, 2022

Senior citizens have become the fastest growing group of cannabis consumers since 2009. The federal government made cannabis illegal in 1937. For most their lives our parents have only known this unprocessed plant to be off limits. However, the times they-are-a-changing. Walk into any cannabis shop and many friendly faces in there will resemble your parents. Cannabis is practically made to accommodate and improve the quality of life for those advancing in age, so give it a try. Unfortunately, to start, I am going to have to see their identification. Colorado has an odd compliance law that makes... Read More

Finding a Helping Hand on Pearl Street

February 10th, 2021

A few weeks ago, I was having dinner with a couple friends on Pearl Street.   As we were enjoying our meal, we started discussing this blog and some of the dispensaries I should check out – both in Boulder and others in the State.   We decided right then and there, after eating, we’d check out Helping Hand Dispensary which is located on Pearl between 10th and 11th. I’ll be honest, I’ve passed this dispensary a few times and never really given it much thought.  I had never gone in before or looked it up online, so walking in I had no preconceived notions at all.   My first instincts... Read More

Grow Your Career: 3 Cannabis Friendly Career Search Engines

January 27th, 2021

Let’s face it.  In 2020, searching for a good job (in an industry that you’re interested in and that pays the bills) is almost as lonely and desperate as looking for love on Tinder!  While networking, building your skills, and having the knowledge/skills needed are always important aspects when searching for the right job, it’s also important to be looking in the right areas for the best opportunities.   In the digital age, most opportunities are buried in an overload of online sites and career search engines.  Sites like LinkedIn, Craigslist, Monster.com, and Glassdoor are great when... Read More

Cannabis, Stress, and Mental Health

August 28th, 2020

Having recently made a personal commitment to achieve a better work life balance, I find myself feeling encouraged to talk about stress, mental health, and even share a bit about my own life’s stressors. Mental health is very important, and the stress of life’s bountiful challenges can take a toll on it very quickly. Gary Vaynerchuk is quoted as saying, “Everybody has shit”, and he’s right. We all have our own shit in our lives we have to deal with. It can often be easy to get caught up in it, to the point you may not consider other people are going through their own shit, so keep that... Read More

Your Weed Might Weigh More

August 28th, 2020

I would like to start off my first assignment with a kind suggestion, be polite to your budtender. You never know, it might make that bag a little heavier. We are nice people, we have similar interests as you, we are stoked to live in Colorado, and we have a cool job so finding us in a good mood is common. We work in an industry where our customers bring in tons of positive energy and are happy to spend their money, where else do you find that? We enjoy talking to new people about the subtle differences in cannabis, the possibilities of cannabidiol (CBD), and we would love for you to ask every... Read More

Is High Times Becoming Clickbait?

August 27th, 2020

What’s up confessioners, confessionistas, confessionalists! I recently decided I needed to make a move in life. I left Steamboat Springs for the college town of Ft Collins, Colorado. It was time for a change, but do not worry, I only changed towns not occupations. At this point, I cannot imagine myself doing anything other than working in the cannabis industry. I have been in training to work in this field since I was fifteen years old, I am not going to leave it now. What am I going to put on a suit and tie and work at some bank? No that is not me, I like the reality of a cannabis dispensary... Read More

Good People Smoke Weed Too

August 13th, 2020

Recently we had our new Attorney General tell us that “good people don’t smoke weed”. That was an ignorant statement made by the man put in charge of this country’s legal affairs and law enforcement. Are you one of these “people”? I am! But…I am a law-abiding citizen, I pay my taxes, I am friendly with my neighbors, and I do not cut people off in traffic, intentionally. I thought I was a pretty decent guy? Half of this country has already updated their laws to legalize marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes. According to two Gallup polls from 2016, over sixty percent of... Read More

Wake and Wellness

July 7th, 2020

For me, the morning is the most important part of my day. I like to wake up early, around 5:00 or 6:00, to enjoy the sunrise and peacefulness the morning has to offer. This time sets my mind and body for the rest of the day, so I try to make it as productive and beneficial to get it started on good vibes. However, I wake up daily to one of my cats crawling all over me and meowing in my face until I get out of bed. He really likes his snacks and to be let outside on the deck to watch the birds. I then start the coffee and consume cannabis. I suffer from idiopathic epilepsy with grand mal seizures,... Read More

What People Over 55 Should Know About Marijuana and Healthcare

July 5th, 2020

Are you over the age of 55?  (If you’re not, share this with your parents or grandparents, please.)  How do you feel about marijuana?  You’ve probably grown up in the post baby boomer generation when the war on drugs included marijuana labeled as the gateway drug. That probably sounds crazy, given the fact that 28 states now have laws in place for legal access to cannabis, while ten states have measures on the 2018 ballot.  While scientific evidence shows the medical benefits of cannabis, beware of political scare tactics that use the word “marijuana” as they are often inaccurate, false,... Read More

Wanna Know How to Grow Like Pros? Ask Surna, Boulder’s Cannabis Cultivation Experts

May 30th, 2020

I bet most of you (if there is anyone reading this yet – come on friends don’t be shy in the comments!) thought I would be writing about a local dispensary for my first official Canna-Business Review, but I thought I’d shake it up to show that I’m an unpredictable person always willing to stretch the boundaries of imagination… okay, so maybe not that far, but I am willing to stretch this blog to uncover all of Boulder’s cannabis companies.  To be honest, when I started my search for my first review, I figured I would be selecting a dispensary.  However, as I mentioned last week, I... Read More

Featuring.. The 14er Boulder!

May 30th, 2020

**Strain Highlight: Strawberry Banana**   With cannabis growth, increased demand, control and gene pool, the names we ascribe new strains greatly influences the industry’s assimilation into our popular culture. Sure, there are novelty strains – like those named for famous stoners: Willy Nelson, Bill Maher, and Snoop Dogg. And, often, it may seem like growers and dispensaries simply pull names from their head-space with help from their product, like a good title meant to attract a target audience. However, strains are usually named for very specific qualities breeders seek to achieve... Read More
