Boulder’s Marijuana Mega-Brains!

January 2nd, 2024

Can I fail a pot test after smoking?  After NOT smoking? Even in Boulder ??? Every blog addressing great words is especially fun in Boulder! We’re SMART. We have GREAT vocabularies, And we have an unquenchable desire for knowledge.  For many of us, that means learning more about our favorite drug, marijuana.  While not for everyone, it is certainly the drug of choice for some. and Boulder has long been pot-centric in many ways. Just as “shared knowledge is power,” we simply must know as much as possible about chemistry we introduce into our bodies.  That means for some... Read More

From Boulder and I Do Not Smoke Weed

December 30th, 2023

I’m a long time lover of the Devil’s Lettuce, and all of its 105+ cannabinoids. I am however not a fan of the 100+ chemicals which combustion adds to to cannabis. Meaning I do not like smoking. Cannabis yes. Combustion no. I am not a fan of edibles, since they typically have one or both of two cannabinoids; THC and CBD. What about the other 103+ cannabinoids? To fit the market I suspect, most flower seems to have high THC and zero CBD. Selfishly personally I prefer flower with all of the cannabinoids present. For the enhancement of the “unpleasant side effects” I... Read More

Dispensary Etiquette: The Right Way To Shop For Cannabis

December 1st, 2022

The art of being a budtender is making customers feel comfortable and excited about purchasing cannabis. There are many elements that dispensaries provide to make these emotions happen: flowering house plants, relaxing music, local artwork, a shop dog, and much more. The one element that is out of the dispensary’s hands is how customers interact with their staff and the other patrons. With emotions flying, I can understand how you can get carried away or find yourself in your own world. Whether it’s your first time or you are a veteran shopper, consider the following elements that you bring... Read More

Organic Cannabis: Why wouldn’t you?

January 11th, 2022

I, like all other people, have my opinions on political and social arguments. Same sex marriage, a woman’s right to choose, fracking. Most of these things, I chose to vote on when the time comes, leaving my personal opinion out of conversations at work, The Pearl Street Pub, and the dinner table. However, the one topic I will speak for, anytime, anywhere, at any dinner table is the importance of growing and producing organic food. Purple Peppers,  Gala Apples, and Palisade Peaches. Pesticide free and grown with love. These are all things we hunt for at the farmers market every year, waiting... Read More

Light(en) Up, Lyons!

April 1st, 2021

High five to you, Colorado! So many wonderful things have happened in our first year of recreational cannabis sales. By the time April 20th, 2014 rolled up, our state had collected over $10,000,000 in taxes from recreational cannabis sales. Crime rates have gone down and there is a whole new job market which has exceeded the number of law enforcement officers–statewide. Sorry, Nebraska and Oklahoma, I think we’re here to stay. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the dusty town of Lyons. With their 25 mile per hour speed zones and classically cow painted dairy bar, how could... Read More

Cannabis for Seniors

February 24th, 2018

With the legalization of cannabis across more states and the stigma surrounding the plant and its users shifting, so has the demographic of people benefiting from the plant. According to the CDC, Americans aged 55-64 who use marijuana regularly has risen by 455%. Those aged 65 and older has risen by 333% from 2002-2014. Why is this shift occurring and how can seniors benefit from cannabis? We know that each person has their own endocannabinoid system. The endocannabioid system has recently been recognized as the most important modulatory system within the body. It is responsible for regulating... Read More

Grow Room Setup Checklist

March 18th, 2017

When you are setting up your grow area, you need to do a few things to ensure a better chance of successful growing. Your grow room (even if it is a closet) needs to have the following features: It must be clean! If it is not, clean it up really well before you start growing in there. By cleaning, I don’t just mean tidy and uncluttered. It must be free of mold, mildew, bugs and other things that can infest your plants. Wipe all of the services you will be using with rubbing alcohol just to be safe. It must be dry. Excess moisture can create real problems for your plants, including mold and... Read More

Congress, Can’t We All Get “A-Bong?”

March 16th, 2017

Remember last week when we discussed how, in contrast to President Obama, the Trump administration may be enforcing federal marijuana laws, regardless of legalization at the state level? Well, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that if Congress did not like his hardline approach towards criminalizing marijuana, they should change the law. That sounds like a threat. There is no doubt we have reached a virtual weed watershed. Twenty-eight states have decriminalized marijuana, and 8 states, plus D.C., are permitting anyone over 21 to toke up. According to the latest Quinnipiac National Poll, 70... Read More

Consumption Junction

January 23rd, 2017

Where do you go to consume marijuana legally in Boulder?  A perplexing question for the thousands of tourists who come to our city looking for the “cannabis experience.”  Even more disappointing, the residents who live here don’t have access to a legal space either.  As a matter of fact, adults over the age of 21 may consume marijuana on private property with the homeowners permission— and that’s it!  Even if you rent, take a minute to check your lease for addenda about cannabis consumption.  Chances are, consumption is prohibited anywhere on the property, including the confines... Read More

Five Things You Need To Know: Cannabis in Colorado

November 5th, 2014

Marijuana in Colorado just isn’t what it was in Vermont. I mean that in the most wonderful of ways. Cannabis has been a part of my life for over ten years, but when I relocated to Colorado in 2012, my perspective changed. The pot sold in dispensaries is grown by horticulturists who have tailored the cannabis plant, providing classic strains and creating new ones. It’s truly one giant experiment that starts in seed and ends in indulgence. Without trying to sound like a Disney movie, it’s a whole new world! With a new world comes curiosity and even fear. I intend to explore with... Read More
