Boulder Sunrises Are Predictable Only in Their Unpredictability

Boulder Sunrises Are always different

As Boulder Sunrises Begin, Reds Are Not Unusual Photo: Lenny “Lensworth” Frieling

The Boulder blues of sunrises contrast with the reds of the start of the sunrise after the reds have begun to fade.

Before the blues, Boulder Sunrises are predominantly red.

The bright yellows and the light subtle blues appear before the stronger blues and after the deep dark red banding which is so common to Boulder Sunrises. The blue-yellow-orange-yellow forms a palette, a colorway of nature that is strong enough to get me out from under the covers. The bedroom begins to turn yellow with the background lighting of the reds and yellow. The opposite side of the color wheel provides the contrast.

While the order of the appearing colors remains generally and frequently the same, the arrangement is new and different every morning during this winter period of sunriase startling skies.

The appearance of blues signal the sun lighting up the morning sky as the reds, yellows and oranges fade into daylight.

The beauty of the morning sky is in the constantly changing colors, and in the contrast of the blues, oranges, yellows and reds. I am constantly and consistently amazed by the change from opposing sides of the color wheel. Colors which are complimentary colors, opposite sides of the color wheel, keep my fascination as my phone records the morning sunrises. Blue opposes red.  Oranges oppose dark blues. Yellows oppose darker blues. Colors that generally don’t go together for a miasma of colorful magic. A colorway that would not normally occur to me appears in blazing glory of contrasting colors, constantly changing.  The beauty of a photo book is that the colorful show is frozen in time, picture by picture.
