Good Morning Boulder!
Boulder wishes us a good morning! This vicious dangerous carnivorous rabbit is at home in the backyard. Extreme caution is advised! Don’t say we did not warn you! This rabbit is so cute that a real and present danger is presented!
The Lesser Kudu also Wishes Us a Good Morning!
The lesser kudu, a captivating and somewhat elusive creature, is one of the many highlights at the Denver Zoo. Native to the arid and semi-arid areas of Eastern Africa, these animals are a smaller, less known relative of the greater kudu, yet they possess a unique charm that captivates zoo visitors.
Characterized by their slender bodies and striking stripes, lesser kudus are a magnificent sight. Males, slightly larger than females, boast spectacular spiraled horns that can grow up to 70 cm in length, adding to their majestic appearance. Their coat, a subtle blend of grays and browns, is adorned with thin, white stripes that serve as an effective camouflage in their natural brushwood habitats.
In the wild, lesser kudus are extremely shy and adept at remaining hidden, which makes observing them in their natural environment a rare treat. The Denver Zoo provides a unique opportunity to witness these animals up close, contributing significantly to their conservation and education about their species. In the zoo, they are housed in an environment that mimics their natural habitat, complete with vegetation and structures that encourage their natural browsing behavior.
These herbivores primarily feed on leaves, shoots, and twigs, illustrating their adaptability to the sparse vegetation of their native landscapes. The Denver Zoo’s lesser kudu exhibit not only showcases their physical beauty but also emphasizes the importance of conservation efforts for such lesser-known species, whose populations in the wild are threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
Visiting the lesser kudu exhibit at the very nearby and excellent Denver Zoo offers an insightful glimpse into the lives of these extraordinary creatures, fostering a deeper appreciation for the diversity and complexity of wildlife.
