Sunrise In Boulder On Our Own 4/20: Our 39th Anniversary!

April 20th, 2024

An advantage to being a columnist for AboutBoulder is that I answer only to my boss, and I AM my boss! Today, taking advantage of my having my hands on the controls, I can use this platform of a million and a half people to wish my darling wife the happiest of anniversaries! What could be more special than dinner at Boulder’s premier restaurant, the Flagstaff House! In the spirit of the event and in the spirit of the Flagstaff, I am going to dust off my tuxedo, polish my shoes, knock the cobwebs off my manners, put away my jeans, and with that proper costume we’ll head up the hill to... Read More

Valentine’s Day Card for Sundown

February 14th, 2024

To Debi, my wife of 38 years, all in Boulder, Happy Valentines Day! And to ALL of you, a Happiest of Valentine’s Day. May your lover never hurt you, and may you never hurt them. Valentine’s Day serves as a reminder that we are in love with each other for the day, and for the rest of the year. I have always made my own Valentine’s Day cards. While some are rather crude, I have gotten better at drawing an arrow through a heart. This year I did something completely different For Debi, turtles Phlash and Speedy, and green cheeked conure parrot, Layla. Because we live the future,... Read More

Flashback Friday 2017 ~ 24 Years of Avery!

August 2nd, 2022

Looking for something local to do this Saturday? Celebrate the Avery Brewing Company’s 24th anniversary with some good tunes and plenty of beers. Avery Brewing has been around since it was established in 1993 by Adam Avery and his father, Larry. Their beers have pleased the mouths of locals for years, but now they have spread beyond Boulder. Just when I was living in Boston, I was introduced to what is now my go-to beer, Avery’s White Rascal. They’ve even crossed U.S. borders, selling their Boulder brews in Sweden and Japan! Clearly, there’s a lot to celebrate, so why not... Read More

Enjoy Smoked Pork and Brews at Boulder Beer for Father’s Day!

June 16th, 2017

Don’t forget, Father’s Day is this weekend! There might still be enough time to get that card in the mail if you’re like me and procrastinated, right? Maybe. But, if you’re lucky enough to have your dad in Boulder with you this Father’s Day, there’s definitely still time to make some fun plans. My recommendation? Boulder Beer’s Father’s Day Pig Roast! You read that right, starting at 1 PM this Sunday, Boulder Beer is going to be smoking pork and feeding families BBQ style. It sounds like it’ll be best to come hungry too because one $14 plate comes with smoked pork, BBQ black beans,... Read More

Rocky Mountain National Park Celebrates its 100th Birthday!

January 27th, 2015

Normally, when you’re celebrating someone’s hundredth birthday, you’re not talking about climbing mountains. The hundredth birthday Rocky Mountain National Park, however, is a little different than most birthdays. Back in 1915, on January 26th, Woodrow Wilson signed Rocky Mountain National park into law. People were visiting the gorgeous Rocky Mountains far before 1915, but that’s the date when Wilson made things official.  Rocky Mountain National park is huge. To give you a basic idea, here’s a few interesting stats: More than 260,000 acres of unfathomable beauty. Includes... Read More
