Kyrie Irving – The Man Behind the Mask

January 12th, 2022

Kyrie Irving is hardly the first professional athlete to refuse to be vaccinated. Aaron Rodgers has stumbled through most of the NFL season answering questions about the subject. Novak Djokovic can’t get into Australia after refusing to get his shots. Lamar Jackson, Bradley Beal, Kirk Cousins, and apparently Antonio Brown, all have refused to get vaccinated. But Irving’s situation is a little different. The Brooklyn Nets star has never given a clear reason for why he has chosen not to get vaccinated, explaining it as a personal decision. But the 7-time all-star is an outlier in a league... Read More

THE NFL ALL-COVID TEAM

December 20th, 2021

COVID-19 continued to dominate the NFL news cycle last week as three games had to be postponed, more than 150 players were placed in COVID-19 Protocol, and rosters scrambled for eligible replacements just hours before kick-off. The Chicago Bears had 12 players placed in COVID-19 Protocol, the Los Angeles Rams had 19, and the Cleveland Brown topped them all with a total of 20, including their head coach. With the Omicron variant wiping out entire team rosters, the NFL and the Players Association were forced to adjust their process announcing less testing for vaccinated players, thus allowing more... Read More

Week Seven in the NFL – Glass Half Empty

October 27th, 2020

It was somewhere around the third quarter of the Seahawks-Cardinals game when I glanced at my beer mug sitting on the nearby table.  I had been watching football and drinking beer for what seemed like the entire weekend when the moment struck. Early in the day the mug sat there with enthusiasm, slightly frosted, and filled to the rim with a Mexican lager.  The foam slowly dripped down the side.  The lime wedge floated with excitement. But it wasn’t until the games were practically over, and the recycling bin was full, when the great philosophical question thrust itself upon me. Was the glass... Read More

Welcome to Fantasy Island

September 9th, 2020

It has been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  But by the end of last season’s Fantasy Football season it seemed as if I had proven the definition to be wrong. Last season I used the same tried and true system that had made me a perennial playoff contender for years, and yet my result were different.  This time I had failed. I always start with a running back in round one of my fantasy draft before aggressively going after a top tight end in round two.  Round three always has me at the quarterback position selecting... Read More

SparkNotes for Fantasy Football

August 21st, 2018

The official start of the NFL season is in a few weeks, which means the office will be consumed with fantasy football.  For most of us, we welcome the two-hour staff meetings that discuss roster numbers rather than sales numbers, but sadly, many workers simply don’t have the time, or care enough, to join the office league. Like playing golf with the sales team, or after work drinks with management, the failure to join a league can leave one feeling ostracized in the corporate world.  So here is your cheat sheet, your SparkNotes.  PPR league, Standard, Snake…don’t worry about the verbiage,... Read More
