Born in Fort Collins in 1917, Byron White was raised in nearby Wellington. Being a devoted student, he graduated from high school at the top of his class in 1930, which earned him a scholarship to the University of Colorado-Boulder. How Boulder Instigated Same-Sex Marriage in CO

Boulder County Clerk Hilary Hall was given an order by CO Attorney General John Suthers to stop offering marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Boulder back in June 2014. Her refusal to heed this order instigated debate on the issue of same-sex marriage legalization in the state Supreme Court. The steadfast decision eventually led to victory for same-sex marriage rights in Colorado. In 2004, Utah voters cast their lots in favor of banning same-sex marriage. Similarly, Colorado voters approved a ban on same-sex marriage in 2006.
