The sun rises over Eastern Boulder County at the Erie Balloon Festival. I arrived at 5:15 AM to make sure I did not miss part of the show!

The rising sun lights the clouds where the hot air balloons are welcomed!

Here we are at the third picture and so far not even one balloon!

I promised balloons!

The early risers admire the fantasy of hot air as the balloons are inflated and lift off the ground.

Over a dozen balloons and their pilots and crews in various stages of takeoff surrounded me. I was grinning from ear to ear, non-stop.  Balloons have the right of way in the air, although smart pilots do not argue with airplanes, regardless of who has the right of way! Just like sailboats are the queens of the water, balloons are the queens of the sky. Even gliders are supposed to yield to balloons.

As I sort through my 350 pictures of the festival I am realizing that I have more to post. That’s a story for tomorrow!
