Boulder Sunrises are frequently spectacular. Not just good, not just colorful, but spectacular. Does that serve a purpose? Absolutely!

The physics are simple. It takes energy to get from lying down to sitting up to getting dressed and out the door. Out the door” can mean going to another room to crank up a computer, pound coffee by the pound, chomp cheesecake like a champ, and read the Monday Morning Motivational Missive. Since there is time during the day, after coffee, to read, to learn, to study and to enjoy the colors of sunrise and of the day, what does that leave? How do we motivate from sleep to awake, from down to up, and from night to day? EASY!  ColorsColors arguably do not simply provide a visual treat, they motivate. Blue alone is a fine color. Put blue next to orange and sparks come off the paper.

Red is dandy like candy. Put it next to yellow and the magic begins. The complimentary colors, colors from opposite sides of a color wheel, cooperate to create energy where none existed before.

Sometimes the mere brightness and saturation of the colors is all that is needed to make the colors “pop.” My eye is repeatedly drawn back into this picture

Just as every sunrise is different, every day is different. Every morning heralds the coming of a new sky painting. Just as the same palette with the same colors of paint can bring forth a different picture every morning, every day brings new adventures, new experiences, and best of all, new pictures. Ranging from subtle to dramatic, we are treated to a new awakening daily. On motivational Monday, that extra starting kick helps us ease our way into the new day and into the new week. Magically, motion springs from from resting. Colors on the canvas of life cooperate to create a cornucopia kaleidoscope of motion and energy springing to life as we spring to life each day. Colors are the fuel which propels us onward, motivates, and transforms calm stillness to riotous frolics of fantastic feasts of daily morning surprises as the colors of dawn burst out, lighting our way into the day and into the week.

And then, something extra-special happens. The colors and the forms come off the surface of the page and take on a life of their own.

This very transition from the dark of night to the colors of sunrise to the light of day takes us from sleep to success! Just like jump-starting a car, sunrise gives our day that initial morning boost to help us start the daylight with a snap to send us on our way up and out into the world.

When we look at a great painting we are energized. We are not just looking at a pretty picture, we are elevated by it. We are motivated by it, inspired by it, and then can go on to create the kind of day we hoped for when we woke up.
