The University of Colorado Boulder delivered a historic moment on May 2, 2026, as a record-breaking class crossed the stage at Folsom Field. In the university’s 150th anniversary year, CU Boulder awarded an astonishing 10,613 degrees to 10,198 graduates, making it one of the largest commencements in school history.

Under clear blue skies and framed by the iconic Flatirons, an estimated 40,000 family members, friends, and proud Buffs packed the stadium to celebrate the Class of 2026. The energy throughout the morning reflected everything Boulder represents—achievement, community, and a deep connection to place.

A Historic Milestone Year

This year’s commencement carried extra meaning as CU Boulder marked 150 years since its founding. The milestone added a sense of legacy to an already unforgettable day, connecting the newest graduates to generations of Buffs who came before them.

The numbers alone tell the story of the university’s growth and impact. The graduating class included 7,980 undergraduates, 1,763 master’s students, 481 doctoral candidates, 193 law graduates, and 196 MBA recipients. Each degree represented years of hard work, resilience, and dedication.

More than 380,000 alumni now make up the Forever Buffs community, and the Class of 2026 officially joined those ranks in a ceremony that blended tradition with forward-looking optimism.

Kristin Davis Returns to Her Roots

One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony came from guest speaker Kristin Davis, the Boulder-born actress best known for her role as Charlotte York in Sex and the City. Returning to her hometown made the occasion even more meaningful.

Davis has deep ties to CU Boulder. Her father served as a psychology professor at the university, and her mother is a CU alum. Speaking to the graduates, she emphasized the importance of embracing both the journey and the unknown ahead.

“You have worked hard, and you are ready for what comes next,” she told the crowd. Her message struck a balance between reflection and encouragement, reminding students to appreciate the relationships and experiences that shaped their time in Boulder.

Words That Resonated

Chancellor Justin Schwartz followed with a message focused on growth and adaptability. He encouraged graduates to continue learning beyond the classroom and to approach the future with curiosity and purpose.

Senior Class Council Director Ally Young offered a relatable perspective, acknowledging the uncertainty many graduates feel while stepping into the next phase of life. Her message centered on self-direction and confidence, urging classmates to create their own path forward.

Together, the speakers captured the spirit of the day—a mix of celebration, reflection, and anticipation for what lies ahead.

Honoring Excellence and Tradition

The ceremony also highlighted several of CU Boulder’s most important traditions and achievements. ROTC cadets and veterans were recognized for their service, while top academic performers received special honors for their accomplishments.

Faculty members, dressed in full academic regalia, filled the stage and sidelines, cheering on their students as they completed this major milestone. Their presence reinforced the strong connection between educators and graduates that defines the CU Boulder experience.

Additional recognition ceremonies took place across campus throughout the weekend, giving individual schools and programs the opportunity to celebrate their graduates in more personal settings.

A Boulder Celebration

Beyond the stadium, the celebration extended throughout the city. Pearl Street Mall buzzed with families gathering for meals and photos, while campus landmarks like Old Main and Norlin Library became backdrops for graduation pictures.

The setting itself played a major role in the day’s impact. With the Flatirons rising dramatically behind Folsom Field, few universities in the country can match the natural beauty surrounding CU Boulder’s campus.

For many graduates, those final moments in Boulder—posing for photos, celebrating with loved ones, and taking in the scenery—will remain some of their most lasting memories.

The Next Chapter Begins

While the ceremony marked the end of one chapter, it also signaled the beginning of countless new journeys. The Class of 2026 leaves CU Boulder equipped with more than degrees—they carry the resilience, curiosity, and sense of community that define a Buff education.

As the sun set behind the Flatirons, the newest Forever Buffs stepped forward into the world, ready to make their mark.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. The future is yours.
