Haunted Patterson Inn! It’s The Real Thing!!!

Is the Patterson Inn, located at 420 E 11th Ave., Denver, Colorado, really inhabited by spirits? Here’s an end to that suspense. Haunted Patterson Hotel! It’s The Real Thing!!!

Haunted Patterson Hotel! It's The Real Thing!!!Colorado’s Second-Most Haunted Hotel!

I have spent three nights as a guest of the Patterson Inn. I had paranormal experiences in two of the rooms; The Library and Gusteau are the two rooms in which I had strong, clear, and inescapably paranormal experiences. Spoiler! Neither experience was scary. While the second was somewhat unsettling because of the specifics of the manifestation, both were far more fascinating than terrifying.

The Library in the Patterson Inn, The Location Of My First Patterson Spirit.

The Library was the reading room and cigar-smoking room for Senator Patterson. Thomas Crooke was the initial builder, in 1891, of the house in Capital Hill. Colorado Senator Patterson’s spirit visited me before I went to sleep in my room. I was alone but for my ghostly guest, my paranormal partner, my long-dead denizen of the deepest darkest bed in the hotel. Perhaps. Other rooms are said to be as haunted or more so. The Senator was the also the first publisher of the Rocky Mountain News.

I have extensive experience with the paranormal, and have a lot of “base points,” “reference points” with which to compare my experience. This visit was unlike anything I’ve “seen” before, and decidedly so. This is the first time I’ve shared the details of my chat with the former Senator, former colonel. My visitor appeared as the Colonel, a rank which he in fact held during his life in the early days of the 20th Century. The house, now boutique hotel, was built shortly before 1900 as a home for Senator Patterson and his family.

While I have had a variety of unusual experiences which may be described as paranormal, my interaction with Senator Patterson’s spirit was totally different than anything I’d previously experienced.

I laid down on the bed, turned off the TV, closed my eyes, and took a deep breath to begin my relaxation routine. Virtually instantly it was as if a door or more a portal opened between me and my normal reality, and a world beyond. It was the most “open” portal I’ve experience in my 73 years. It was as dramatic and as simple as a door opening between me and the Senator’s world. Senator Patterson showed himself almost instantly.

He seemed quite happy to have a visitor who was immediately there for him, and who was obviously open to and looking forward to an interaction. He was almost as corporeal as if he’d stepped into the room. For the next 45 minutes we had a most interesting conversation, sadly sans cigars, on a variety of subjects. Then it was apparently time for him to call it a night and he left. The conversation was as engaging as some of my more interesting chats with “regular” people. He was not there, and then he WAS there. It was anything but subtle. Would others have had the same experience if they’d been in the room with me? I have no idea. I am 100% confident that I experienced the paranormal. The spirit knew things not involving any obvious contact with the “spirit world,” beyond the presence of the Senator in the room. I did not ask him to reach out to any other spirits. The conversation was quite sufficient and quite real!

Gusteau with spirit cloud over Debi

This Is VERY Close To What I Saw In Gusteau, Over The Bed. A Direct Look At The Cloud Did Not Work

My second special visit to the Patterson Inn had me staying in Gusteau. This time I was not alone. My wife Debi was asleep on the bed next to me. She slept well during my second Patterson visitation. This time the image I saw was somewhat disturbing. When I look towards Debi, but not directly at her or directly at the space over her body, in my peripheral vision, I saw a distinct dark, almost black dusty cloud. It was more “real” than an apparition, and less corporeal than a normal thing would have appeared. It was quite real, again not subtle, and again not scary on its own. What was disturbing was seeing a dark cloud over my wife of 39 years, not knowing what it meant. There was no sense of foreboding and no sense of any danger.

Patterson Inn! It's The Real Thing!!! A truly haunted hotel.

When I looked directly at the “cloud,” it would fade out. When I looked away it would appear again in my peripheral vision. After observing this for five minutes or so, and with no exchange of words or of any communication of which I was aware, the cloud vanished. The air above the bed cleared up. Only then did I realize just how clouded the air above the bed was. It was as if someone had turned on the lights, with the room becoming brighter and the air more clear.

Neither experience was normal. Both were different than anything I’ve seen before or since. The difference was striking enough for me to have NO questions about having seen something not of this normal reality. All of this is totally true, with NO artistic license. I am simply reporting, as accurately as I can, what I experienced at the Patterson on September 30, 2024 at about 11 PM. Lights were out, and the room was not very dark. The curtains let some street light through.

Happy Halloween!
