What Did Your Sports Hero Dress Up As For Halloween?

October 21st, 2023

Besides the sugar-buzz from devouring fun-sized Snicker bars all weekend, the best part was watching famous athletes walking arena halls in their Halloween best. The Celtics’ Grant Williams went full Gotham in a Batman costume. Atlanta’s Trae Young dressed as the Black Panther. The Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic was appropriately made up as The Joker. And most everyone else in the sports world showed up as some type of character from Stranger Things. I didn’t happen to catch what quarterback Russell Wilson dressed up as pre-game, but I had a few guesses. • Russell could have dressed up as a beverage... Read More

The Top Sports Headlines of 2020

January 5th, 2021

If you feel that the title was somehow misleading, I apologize.  The objective of a headline is to generate interest, tease with curiosity, and lure with creative word choice.  As a reader, you probably expected a synopsis of the year’s most powerful stories, not actual headlines. That reminds me of a story I wrote a few years ago ranking which NBA lineup had the best trio of players.  The article was titled, “Everybody Loves a Threesome”. Call it a reflection of the work created over the past year, a chance to smile thinking about the absurdity that was 2020, or simply just a way to recycle... Read More

Denver Broncos – Bulletin Board Material

September 20th, 2019

After an 0-2 start, the last thing the Denver Broncos probably need is more ridicule and criticism. Afterall, the defense has looked solid, Joe Flacco is throwing the ball well, and if it wasn’t for a bad roughing-the-quarterback call last Sunday, Denver would be just a game out of first. But consider this early season bulletin board material—and a wakeup call—because if the losses continue to pile up, the press will continue to pile on. Here are the early season victims. Phillip Lindsay – My nickname for Lindsay is Macarena. After rushing for over 1,000 yards and making the Pro Bowl in... Read More

Hand Me My Orange Colored Glasses

October 23rd, 2018

Doubters may look at Denver’s 45-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals as a needed win over an awful team.  Rookie QB Josh Rosen threw two interceptions that went for scores, the Cardinals had five turnovers, and Arizona dropped to 1-6 in the standings. Sure, the Broncos three wins have come against teams that have a combined 5-14 record, but after a season full of frustration, here are six reasons to look at Denver’s first road win of the season with orange colored glasses. Von Miller – With just 1.5 sacks during Denver’s four-game losing streak, Miller called out Arizona and his own... Read More

Bronco Draft Gives Them a Chubb

May 1st, 2018

With all the speculation leading towards the Denver Broncos selecting a quarterback-of-the-future in this year’s NFL draft, gun-slinger John Elway failed to pull the trigger, but didn’t draw a blank.  After Cleveland continued its historic failure of drafting quarterbacks by selecting Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick, the Browns compounded their mistake by selecting Denzel Ward (CB/Florida State) providing the Broncos a gift of edge-rushing proportions. It’s possible that Elway had his eye on Mayfield or Sam Darnold (USC), but after both quarterbacks were taken off... Read More

Denver’s Draft Pick – Fairly Obvious

March 20th, 2018

Now that John Elway has his quarterback, predicting who the Broncos will take with the fifth pick in the 2018 NFL draft is fairly obvious.   It may not be sexy, but Denver needs major help on their offensive line so look for Elway to select Quenton Nelson, a beast of a lineman out of Notre Dame.  You can pencil Nelson in as an immediate starter and a future pro-bowler for years to come. Actually, since we’re doing this in pencil…Case Keenum only signed a two-year deal for basically Brock Osweiler money, which means Elway doesn’t see him as the long-term solution, but more of a stop-gap... Read More
