Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

July 1st, 2021

I met Mike outside Boulder Bikesmith as he was trying to fit his mountain bike into his SUV. A common site in Boulder! Originally from New Mexico, Mike and his wife moved here from San Diego in 1997. “We came out for a job opportunity, went up Flagstaff, took a look over the the front range and that was all she wrote. We never went to the beach in San Diego, we were always more oriented towards the mountains, so this was a perfect fit.”  He was a runner, qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Mike didn’t run it because he got more interested in trail running. Another reason to... Read More

Seeing Boulder with New Eyes: The Valmont Bike Park

July 10th, 2015

I recently returned to Boulder from a very extended road trip. During which, I spent nearly three months exploring the Western half of the United States, slept in a different spot every night, and woke up to a new place every morning. I saw each town with a fresh set of eyes, excited for whatever the days adventure may be. Each place was new and beautiful, but still, nothing beats my hometown. Having spent so long on the road taught me how to adventure, it showed me that exploring is not just a physical challenge; it is also a mental marathon. I was sad to return, sad that the novelty was over,... Read More

Calls of the Wild at Heil Valley Ranch

October 2nd, 2014

< If you have gotten out to some of the foothills and montane parks around the county lately and sat for a quiet moment amid your mountain bike race down the mountain or perhaps your run up the hill, then you may have heard a strange whistling kind of noise. It is not the sound of elves frolicking, it is actually a love song. The bull elk is calling out, just like a love struck teenager, for some companionship from a cow elk.  The call is a bugle and can be heard now during elk rut.  The only herd of elk that lives out their entire lives inside the borders of Boulder County calls Heil Valley... Read More

Triathletes love Boulder, compression socks, and this new blog.

September 22nd, 2014

Boulder has a reputation for being a very healthy, active, and outdoorsy place. I was recently on Tinder and just about every girl on there had some sort of picture of themselves hiking, snowboarding, or finishing the Bolder Boulder on their profile. Their favorite places to shop include the bike shop, Whole Foods, and REI. It makes sense when you think about it, just look at the flatirons. I like to call it the health trap. Stay in Boulder long enough and eventually you will pick up an outdoorsy hobby. This hobby will introduce you to people who are healthy eaters. These health nuts will consciously... Read More
