The Rockies Turn-Around Season

August 8th, 2017

I sat at my laptop looking at all the stats, all the numbers, all the scenarios, and asked myself just why are these Colorado Rockies so much better than last year? At 64-48, 16 games over .500 and charging towards a playoff spot, I was determined to figure out the answer by looking at hitting, pitching, injuries, and even the manager. Finally, it all became clear. The answer was Greg Holland. 1) It was difficult not to credit the powerful Colorado bats as the major factor in the Rockies turn-around from last year’s 75-87 record. Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, and DJ LeMahieu have been... Read More

Just Where We Want Them

June 27th, 2017

The Los Angeles Dodgers took care of business this past weekend with a series sweep over the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies were thoroughly outplayed as the Dodger bats dominated the young Colorado pitching staff. While some may look at the loss as a missed opportunity, the reality is that the Rockies may have played it just right. A series loss simply means that everyone keeps the status quo. Starting at Third Base – I Don’t Know It was known as the classic Abbott and Costello comedy sketch, confusingly funny as the ballplayers included names like Who at first, What on second, and I Don’t Know at third base. But as the Rockies enter the month of June in second place in the NL West, life seems to be imitating (comedic) art. I recently took an informal poll of my friends and relatives, all with decent baseball knowledge, and asked the simple question. Who plays third base for the Colorado Rockies? The response included many wrong names, plenty of mispronunciations, and lots... Read More

Colorado Rockies – Five things that are bound to happen

May 16th, 2017

Almost forty games into the season and the Colorado Rockies are sitting in first place in the NL West. First baseman, Mark Reynolds is on fire (.331, 12 HR, 31 RBIs), Nolan Arenado is still the best third baseman in the game, and the young pitching staff is throwing well. This could be the year…. I want to believe that too. But as you sit there with your purple shaded glasses on, my job is to explain to you the harsh reality of how the rest of the season will sadly progress. 1) Injuries. Pitchers just can’t make it through a season anymore. Tyler Anderson and Jon Gray are already on the... Read More
