Nolan Arenado – The Worst Trade Ever?

February 8th, 2021

Jeff Bridich has been in a leadership role for the Colorado Rockies organization for more than 14 years.  A graduate of Harvard University and former major league player, Bridich was named Executive Vice President and General Manager back in 2014. Surely a man with an Ivy League education and plethora of experience would know the trade value of a 29-year-old, 5-time All-Star like Nolan Arenado.  Bridich must have had a class or two in negotiation, or at least read a book on deal-making before shopping the 8-time Gold Glove third baseman to the St. Louis Cardinals.  After all, Arenado had averaged... Read More

Steve Atwater and the Art of the Jersey

February 7th, 2020

The year was 1996 and my first as a Denver Broncos season ticket holder.  The seats were located in the south stands at the old Mile High Stadium, where thousands of us sandwiched ourselves on the cold, uncomfortable benches of yesteryear.  The south stands lacked arm rests, seat backs, cup holders, and the appropriate amount of restrooms, but the seats were a mere $20 a piece and with little-to-no need for security at that time, we could bring in as much blankets, beer, and food as we wanted.  Life was good, as was the team. The first order of operations was to purchase a jersey to wear proudly... Read More

Elway QB Disasters – From Worse to Worst

October 25th, 2019

General Manager John Elway has tried everything to find an answer at the quarterback position, with laughable results.  In honor of the man who wore number seven on his jersey, we count down the seven worst (and sadly, only) choices that Elway has made to fill the position since Peyton Manning retired. 7)  Chad Kelly – It’s difficult to fault Elway for selecting Kelly with the last pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.  The nephew of legendary Buffalo Bills quarterback, Jim Kelly, Chad was a low-risk, high-reward selection that showed good arm strength, size, and athleticism that Elway was willing... Read More

Top Five is no Druckenmiller

February 20th, 2018

I can feel it.  Bronco Nation is a little nervous about John Elway’s ability to make the right pick at quarterback at this year’s draft.  We’re afraid his track record speaks for itself and we’re petrified that he’s going to make the wrong choice.  Well, don’t worry.  The fifth overall pick is no Jim Druckenmiller. The year was 1997 and the San Francisco 49ers were looking to replace aging hall-of-famer Steve Young and continue their historic QB lineage.  While most franchise quarterbacks tend to go in the upper-first- half of the NFL draft, the 49ers waited until the 26th pick... Read More

Denver’s QB Blame Game – This One’s For John

October 31st, 2017

John Elway is a Hall-of-Fame legend, the face of the Denver Broncos, and the mastermind that lured Peyton Manning to Denver, eventually leading to a Championship four years later. As the Broncos struggle at 3-4 despite a Super Bowl caliber defense, most of the blame seems to be targeted on quarterback Trevor Siemian and Monday night’s three interception performance didn’t help. But if we are playing the blame game, this one’s for John. When John Elway rejoined the Denver Broncos back in 2011 as the Vice President of Operations a few things were obvious. Josh McDaniels had left a mess,... Read More
