6 Things More Common in Boulder Than Anywhere Else

March 12th, 2023

Anything “Buffalo” themed. Boulder is a college town, so the university is a source of some major pride in this city. CU’s mascot is the famous, 1,400-pounds of raging buffalo affectionately known as Ralphie. This means places all around town – from the Buff Restaurant to the best buffalo burger joint – incorporate this CU Buff pride into their own business as much as possible. People who moved here from California. Boulder, Colorado seems to have a huge pull of West Coast people. Maybe they’re drawn to the liberal politics, the beautiful scenery, or just the good vibes of people... Read More

6 Things You Shouldn’t Forget in Boulder

September 18th, 2022

It’s a town full of adventurers, foodies, and oh-so-trendy college kids. You’ll want to be in the know and prepared for anything. Here’s what you shouldn’t forget when you’re in Boulder: Reusable Bags. These puppies can save your life. Plastic bags are the cancer of environmentally-friendly cities everywhere, so more and more places are passing legislation that imposes 5 or 10-cent fees for having to use plastic or paper bags at the check-out. Plus, if you forget your reusable bags when you’re checking out at Whole Foods or Sprouts or Trader Joe’s, people will... Read More

Boulder’s Prime Picnicking Parks

September 13th, 2022

There are very few summer activities as romanticized as the classic picnic. A red checkered blanket and some iced tea can be the perfect way to spend and afternoon. Picnics like these can only really be ruined by two things–a parade of particularly vicious ants or having to jockey for blanket space. Chautauqua is a lovely place to enjoy some time lounging in the sun, but sometimes the hordes of sun seekers are just too much. To avoid lugging your wicker basket across miles of crowded lawn, check out a few of Boulder’s lesser known sunning spots. Beach Park Nestled just a few blocks down... Read More

August 26th, 2022

Last Friday, for the 9th year in a row, Boulderites from businesses all over town ditched their wheels, picked up their inner tubes, and hopped into Boulder Creek to ride the waves to work. Dressed in everything from a full suit and tie to tight flashy spandex and wacky wigs, tubers gathered along Boulder Creek all morning and plunged into cold water with high spirits and a big smile. It was a sunny day with rushing ice-cold creek water and over 500 people tubing to work … a quintessential Friday in Boulder, Colorado. Tube to Work Day has quickly established itself as a tradition in this town.... Read More

Looking Back: Surviving the Bolder Boulder

May 25th, 2022

On Memorial Day last year, over 50,000 runners blanketed the city of Boulder as they competed in the Bolder Boulder 10K. Elite runners from across the globe, top wheelchair competitors, and thousands of everyday citizens sweated through 6.2 miles as they attended one of the largest and most popular races in the country. While the race usually comes down to a sprint at the final stretch of Folsom Field, and hundreds struggle from the heat, cramping, injury, and altitude, most finish with a smile. The stories are usually written about Olympian athletes and their ability to overcome obstacles. Well,... Read More

Boulder Fringe Festival-Katharine Hawthorne

August 26th, 2020

Katharine Hawthorne’s performance, Between the Wish and the Thing appeared at the Boulder Fringe Festival this year. The performance was a dive into the unknown, exploring passing time and the past, present and future. Her piece appeared at the Boulder Fringe Festival in Kelly’s Barn in collaboration with Elizabeth Chitty and John Chandler Hawthorne. The dancers broke the fourth wall and engaged the audience with interaction. When the performance started, we were all asked to open fortune cookies that had been laid out on the patio for us as the performer danced a few of our fortunes. As... Read More

6 Things You Realize As Soon As You Leave Boulder

March 29th, 2020

It’s a fantastic city, Boulder, but the longer you live here, the more accustomed you’ll become to mountains, sunshine, craft beer, and socially liberal ideas. You run the risk of forgetting that not every city is environmentally conscious and dog-friendly all the time. Here are some things to keep in mind if you leave town: Not everyone is ultra-fit. Boulder has consistently been ranked as one of the fittest cities in the country. It is a hotbed of marathoners, bikers, runners, hikers, skiers, snowboarders, unicyclers, hoola-hoopers, etc. As soon as you get out of town though, you’ll realize... Read More

Environmental Events

April 16th, 2017

I don’t know about anyone else, but the middle of April always feels kind of bland.  Nothing really special seems to be going on, and we’re in that almost but not quite spring part of the year, so I thought I’d change things up again for this week and have a theme.  This week, we’re looking at events that have to do with sustainability and protecting the environment.  That may sound boring, but I think you’ll find at least one of these events interesting. Starting with Tuesday the 18th, the Boulder Theater is presenting the Recycled Runway for the 8th year in a row.  Hosted by The... Read More

Draw On These Events This Week

April 9th, 2017

Well, it’s time to get back to the usual format.  I’ve dug through my sources to find some great new events for you all this week, but before I get to those I have to take this one last chance to reiterate what I recommended last week.  Since then I’ve seen the film myself and am close to considering it my favorite movie of all time.  Alright, I’ve pushed that movie hard enough, let’s get to the new events shall we? On Tuesday April 11th, and every Tuesday for that matter, Upslope brewing company is hosting their Tuesday Tapping.  Every week their brewers create new and unique beers... Read More

The ONE Event You Need Know About

April 2nd, 2017

To start off April, I’m going to be doing something a little different than usual.  Instead of highlighting three events for this week, I’m going to be focusing on just one.  I decided to do this not just because it would allow me to get a little more in depth about this one event, but also because it’s something I’ve been waiting over a year for and can’t really contain my own excitement.  So, what is it that is so exciting I’m dedicating this entire week to? Kimi No Na Wa, or Your Name as it is known in English, is the latest film from my personal favorite director Makoto Shinkai.... Read More

The end of March is already here, and somehow it felt like it went by even quicker than February.  Before we say goodbye to March and head towards the springtime in April, let’s take a look at some last minute events to squeeze in before the month is out.   The Five “Mother Sauces” Cooking Class on March 28th will teach what the bases is for all great sauces.  Hosted at the Food Lab from 6-9pm for $79 per person, this class is the perfect first step for learning how to make any classic sauce on your own.  The five mother sauces being taught are Bechamel, Espagnole, Hollandaise,... Read More

Events you need to put on your calender

It may be hard to believe there’s only two weeks left in March, although it has been feeling a lot like spring already. In the spirit of the changing season, here are three fresh events for the upcoming week.   Starting off on Tuesday the 21st from 6:30-8:30 is the Courage Club: Relationship addition.  This event, as the name suggests, focuses on improving a relationship in your life, but not just romantic ones.  They will help with relationships of all kinds, such as roommates, family, co-workers, and purely social ones.  This Club will teach you about how fear may be affecting you in... Read More

Post daylight savings Events

March 12th, 2017

Most of us are probably still recovering from daylight savings, but that’s no excuse to skip out on the events coming up this week.  If anything, why not let these events get you back into your regular routine? On March 14th at 7:30pm, the Boulder Bookstore is hosting author Daniel Pinchbeck to speak about his book.  Titled “How Soon is Now?” his book looks at what he calls an ecological mega-crises on Earth.  Actions taken now may determine what kind of world and lives future generations have.  Pinchbeck, a futurist and philosopher, wrote his book as a social guide to avoid this crises.... Read More

Events to treat all senses

March 5th, 2017

Here I am again with so much to say about these under advertised events that I just want to get straight into them.  I will say this, though: This month’s events are a treat for all senses.  Come see what I mean.   Throughout the entire month of March the Boulder Dinner Theater is putting on their performance of Disenchanted.  This comedic parody of classic fairytales turns all the classic tropes about princess we know on their heads.  This musical features all the Disney princesses becoming fed up with how they’re being presented in today’s media and join together to reclaim their... Read More

Three Exciting Events This Week

February 12th, 2017

February always moves quick, so it’s important to make sure and keep up with the events going on before the month is over.  If you haven’t already gone out and checked out something new and exciting this month, let these three suggestions be your guide. The renowned Sculptor Kevin Box will be presenting his work at SmithKlein Gallery on February 14th from 2-6pm.  Kevin Box begins his work with a single sheet of paper, a clean slate in his eyes, and works to bring out the potential of that clean slate in each precise fold he makes.  Despite their paper like appearance, the final products... Read More
