Sports are Back! – Well, Almost

June 28th, 2021

For a moment it was if sports were all the way back.  Large galleries followed golfers around Torrey Pines at the US Open, NBA playoff games were being played with crowds at full capacity, and UFC Fight Night was no longer at Fight Island off the coast of Dubai, but rather, Treasure Island off the Strip in Las Vegas. At the Kentucky Derby thousands of fans cheered on their horse in most elegant hats, and at the Tour de France thousands more lined cobblestone streets.  Boisterous fans clamored behind home plate at the College World Series, and tennis officials were once again asked to quiet fans... Read More

The Denver Broncos – Early Season Predictions

May 18th, 2021

Considering that the Colorado Avalanche start their run at Lord Stanley’s Cup this week as the top overall seed, while the Denver Nuggets begin their march to the NBA Finals just days later, it seems ridiculous to talk about the Denver Broncos when the NFL season does not kickoff until September. It would be one thing if Denver had managed to trade for Aaron Rodgers, but even as Bronco Nation continues to dream, common knowledge has Green Bay holding off on any trade talk until after the First of June with the intent of maneuvering Rodgers’ $31 million dead cap money into something more manageable. But... Read More

Denver’s Draft Day – Did He Say Cornerback??

May 5th, 2021

The art of the NFL draft is subjective at best.  War rooms filled with billionaires, general managers, and coaches all searching for ways to improve the franchise.  Draft boards in dry erase markers list best players available, positions of need, and potential new faces of a franchise. For GM’s and head coaches on the hot seat, it is a final chance to save their jobs by selecting a savior quarterback, a much-needed tackle, or a tight end weapon with 4.3 speed. For Denver’s new general manager, George Paton, it is an opportunity to succeed where John Elway has failed for the last four seasons. ... Read More

Super Bowl Odds – Can Anyone Beat the Chiefs?

December 29th, 2020

To say that the Kansas City Chiefs are the odds-on favorite to repeat as Super Bowl Champions would be an understatement.  With a record of 14-1, home field throughout the playoffs, and quarterback Pat Mahomes behind center, Las Vegas sees them as a +170 to win it all again. The +170 represents a return of $170 if you were to bet $100, or the equivalent of 1.7 to 1 odds. But if you were paying attention over the past few weeks you may have seen Mahomes look rather pedestrian in throwing three picks against the Dolphins in week 14, KC barely surviving a close one versus the Saints in week 15,... Read More

Broncos vs Raiders: It Could Be All We Need to See

August 9th, 2019

After a 6-10 season, the Denver Broncos and John Elway knew they had to make some changes. The team said goodbye to Case Keenum, the coaching staff, Bradley Roby, Matt Paradis, and others. In came an entire new coaching staff, a high-priced secondary, and a Super Bowl winning quarterback in Joe Flacco. The question is whether all the movement will lead to victories, or do the Broncos revert to the same team (with another new quarterback) that has gone 20-28 since winning the Super Bowl back in 2015? Generally, one game does not a season make. But in this case, with an opening-season matchup against... Read More

SparkNotes for Fantasy Football

August 21st, 2018

The official start of the NFL season is in a few weeks, which means the office will be consumed with fantasy football.  For most of us, we welcome the two-hour staff meetings that discuss roster numbers rather than sales numbers, but sadly, many workers simply don’t have the time, or care enough, to join the office league. Like playing golf with the sales team, or after work drinks with management, the failure to join a league can leave one feeling ostracized in the corporate world.  So here is your cheat sheet, your SparkNotes.  PPR league, Standard, Snake…don’t worry about the verbiage,... Read More

NFL QB Rankings – Broncos 27th Out of 32

May 15th, 2018

After signing Case Keenum to a two-year contract and passing on a quarterback in the draft, how do the Broncos compare to the other 31 teams at the quarterback position for the next few years.  The ranking below.         Green Bay – They have Aaron Rodgers, enough said. New England – Tom Brady stars as Benjamin Button. New Orleans – Drew Brees signed a two-year extension worth $50 million, the Saints are fine. Seattle – Russel Wilson is only 29 years-old, has gone to four Pro-Bowls, and has already won a ring.  They’re good. Detroit – The franchise has issues,... Read More

Trevor Siemian – Time for Some Respect

September 26th, 2017

You would think that Trevor Siemian could finally exhale. After starting out the season at 2-1, including a four-touchdown game against the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago, Siemian should be embracing each day like most NFL starting quarterbacks. The endorsements should be piling in, the driver should be waxing the Bentley, and dinner at every five-star restaurant should have an open table. But even after a 2016 season that included 14 starts, 18 TDs, and 3400 yards passing, Siemian’s name is more-often-than -not misspelled, and misplaced by most maitre d’s. Here are eight reasons why Denver’s... Read More
