What’s The Hardest Part About Growing Up?

January 12th, 2021

In this blog: A survival guide for baby Buffs. How crazy it is to think soon I’ll be a senior at CU Boulder. What’s even more crazy to think is how four short years ago I was a freshman at this fantastic school, beginning my journey as a college student. I’ve said hello and goodbye to college courses, some of which I, for a second, had me convinced that maybe German Studies or History was the perfect major for me, only to realize hell nooo. Walking onto the CU campus as a Freshman and into my first college course was one of the most petrifying moment in life. However, these moments... Read More

Thriving and Surviving your first CU party

August 25th, 2019

As an incoming freshman, you’re going to hear a bunch of different things about the college party scene, some may be true and some may not. As a freshman, you should definitely go to at least one party to decide if you like going out or not. Partying is not for everyone, but you owe it to your social self to try it at least once. When I was a freshman, my roommate and I were wondering how you even hear about parties. She came back one day and said that someone told her to just wonder on the hill and walk into any party you hear/see. To me, that was super intimidating because I didn’t know... Read More

Here’s to getting ahead in your Freshman year

August 24th, 2019

Hey incoming freshman! There are only a couple more weeks until the start of your freshman year aka one of the most exciting years of your life! Oh how I wish I was a freshman again, there would be so many things that I would do over, and so many things I wish I could have done. With that being said, here is a list of seven things you should definitely know before starting the year. When you make your schedule whatever you do, do NOT give yourself an 8 am class. You might be used to getting up early coming out of high school, but trust me you WILL regret it when there is something fun to do the... Read More

In Memory of My Undergraduate Self

April 30th, 2016

Everything I wish I had known as an incoming freshman and everything I’ve learned through the past four years as an undergraduate at CU. This post is dedicated to Lauryn Ratashak, and all of the other incoming freshman. Shout out to you, baby buffs! 1. Go to frat parties as a freshman, because once you’re a sophomore, you won’t want to. 2. Know that there are 30,000 people on the CU campus. This means that there are endless opportunities to meet new people and make new friends. With that being said, don’t tie yourself to one person; which is easy to do as a freshman. 3.... Read More

Faces of Boulder- Pic of the Day!

October 16th, 2015

Meet Hallie! This freshman chemistry student is originally from Illinois, but was raised most of her life in Parker Colorado. Her favorite activities include snowboarding and hiking. She loves that she is close to the mountains, and the “crazy” weather Colorado has. The quick changing climate “keeps things exciting” Hallie remarked. In her free time, Hallie loves star gazing through her own telescope. “The Cygnus constellation is my favorite. It’s one of the easiest to find, plus its a swan.” Thanks for sharing Hallie!  Read More

Spectacular Mars Meteor Shower; CU Aerospace Made Big Contribution

November 13th, 2014

In case you students are too busy with your own studies to stay up to date with our school’s aerospace engineering department, tune into this article. We all know about Mars but scientists at CU Boulder are trying to know more. So, about a year ago we launched a space shuttle that just recently slid into Mars’ orbit. A mere 442 million mile one-way trip.   The reason I like to bring things like this up is because most students don’t realize how awesome of a research university we are, in all categories. For example, we’re the number-one funded public university in the nation... Read More

Halloween: Have Fun but Stay Safe!

October 29th, 2014
Halloween in Boulder Colorado

It’s finally here students, the weekend that is arguably the most dynamic out of the entire school year! Time to pretend you’re someone you desperately want to be or a celeb who you’d love to bash on. I was a “beaten up biebs” last year. I despise Bieber and thought it would be funny, unfortunately nobody understood. So, my first piece of advice is don’t overthink the costume idea and don’t offend diehard fans, they’re passionate!!!   My second piece of advice, which should be the first considering how important it is, BE SAFE. We all know how rowdy Boulder gets... Read More

Why you should go to CU Football Games, Even Though We’re Not Any Good

October 8th, 2014

To be completely honest, our football team has played like dirt the past few, or more than few, years. This is in part because we joined the Pac-12 back in June of 2010. However, I’m here to tell you other students why all of that does not matter, and it starts with being fans!   We all hear that cliché saying from some famous athlete or celebrity saying “I couldn’t have done it without you guys, THE FANS”. Now, I’m usually the guy to shake his head, thinking all they want is more attention and applause. This time, I gotta be the guy to tell you that without us as loyal... Read More

A Chance Encounter Leads to an Amazing Relationship

August 6th, 2014

This year, About Boulder is teaming up with Quintessentials for one unbelievable partnership. Quintessentials is a company that delivers personal care items to students on behalf of their parents, giving them all the things they need to survive their freshman year of college! I’m sure you’re wondering how this incredible partnership started, and that’s what Quintessentials founder Travis Parke is telling us today. “I suppose it all started in the fall of 2013 when Keira and I met each other in a Business of Entrepreneurship class. She – being far better at studying... Read More

Eight Tips for Incoming Freshmen from a Seasoned CU Vet

August 28th, 2013

So, you’ve just started school at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Congrats! You’re in for the best four (or maybe more) years of your life, which you’re likely to have trouble remembering. Here are eight tips from a current CU senior to help you new Buffs out as you navigate CU: 1) Dealing with your Roommate: Try not to worry too much about having a “bad roommate.” Statistically speaking, it’s very unlikely that they’ll be a psycho serial killer. Just be respectful to them and chances are they’ll return the favor. Don’t leave a mess in... Read More
