[VIDEO] Faces of Boulder: Shankar ~ Yoga Edition

February 10th, 2024

Since the beginning of The Faces of Boulder Project the AboutBoulder photography team has primarily focused our attention on multiple people for every online post, but this edition of the Faces of Boulder will be different because it’s all about one very special person who lives here in Boulder, Shankar Moghe. Travis Bildahl and I ran into Shankar at the Eben G. Fine Park on a nice afternoon and realized right away that we had encountered a very unique individual that was self-actualized. Shankar Moghe stretches out his legs on his mat in Eben G. Fine Park to cool down after doing... Read More

Monday Sunset At Sunrise Boulder-Style, Warm Weather Travel

January 29th, 2024

Sunset Point at Sunset                                         photo Lenny Lensworth Frieling Boulderites travel.  Summer and winter, North and South and all points in between. My rationalization for posting a sunset picture at sunrise is simple. Sunset in one place means it IS sunrise in another. I suppose that if you are a “flat earther” this presents some problems in perspective, but these are not my problems!  So I am taking the liberty of blogging with a sunset, at sunrise. Additionally, eating too many edibles can result in waking... Read More

Saturday Sundown in Boulder. BUFFS, REST TONIGHT, WIN TOMORROW!!!

January 20th, 2024

I admit it. As one Boulderite to another, I am addicted. The rapidity of the addiction is scary, and I caution all of you! Beware of the addictive Lady Buffs’ Basketball! After only ONE game, against UCLA, I have already gotten tickets for tomorrow, Sunday’s game. PAC 12 USC is visiting, hopefully for the lessons that our BUFFS are happy to teach them! There are many reasons for my sudden addiction, including discovering that I enjoy the superstar women’s play more than the men’s basketball games. I like the skill, the heart, the speed, and the vibes. I like the length... Read More

Longs Peak from the Scenic Route, Lyons to Estes Park Longs Peak overlooks Boulder like a giant guardian towering from on high, looking down from Rocky Mountain National Park It looks different every day, every hour of every year and from every angle. This shot is part of a drive from Boulder to Estes Park taking the “scenic route.”  Route 36 is the “short way” from Lyons to Estes Park and to the main Park entrance IF you take the right, (ignoring your screaming phone navigator) you might find the 20 minute drive taking an hour. FAR longer than the normally slower longer... Read More

Boulder’s Ephemeral Sunrises and Sunsets, Boulder’s Special Light

December 20th, 2023

Boulder light, great art light, can be dramatic. Our first pic falls into that category. The dramatic is in contrast to the subtle, which frequently greats ouf visions of clouds and sun. This first sunrise picture is dramatic, not subtle, and in-your-face! The rest of the focus of this article is the more subtle sunset and sunrise lighting.    Lensworth Boulder, Colorado, is renowned for its mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets, attributed to what many describe as the area’s “good light.” Lensworth This unique lighting phenomenon has made the city a favorite spot for... Read More

Sam  is a passionate skier, music lover, and awesome photographer. You’ll find him cruisin’ up to the top of Flagstaff to catch a sunset, or waking up early to hit the slopes during the winter time. When the sun goes down, he’s jammin’ out to tunes at Red Rocks and catching some epic moments during concerts that throw down.  Read More

David attended CU Boulder as an undergrad and has been here ever since; he enjoys all of the outdoor activities Boulder brings to the table, especially hiking and climbing the amphitheater! Kelle is a journalist for a Canadian magazine and has been living in Boulder for three and a half years after relocating from the Bay Area. Not only were these two friendly enough to let me take their picture, they also lent us a trial map!  Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

October 8th, 2023

Some people shy away from cameras – others jump in front of them. Peter Hurley, a world-renowned headshot photographer, has put his own spin on this. He believes that a good portrait requires that the camera doesn’t mess with the subject, but that the subject messes with the camera. Once someone loses sight of the insecurities provoked by the camera, they start to perform for it. People start to play with the camera. They stare into it as if they were playing head games. They treat it as if it were a person looking at them – a person they want to make an impression on. These two girls were... Read More

The Boulder Bubble and Beyond

May 1st, 2023

Boulder is a city and county of many parts. Anyone who lives or visits here can’t help noticing. Within an hour’s drive of downtown you can find everything from hamlets nestled into pine-covered foothills to municipalities threading cottonwood traces, from the pristine vistas of Rocky Mountain National Park to the anchor of the Great Plains spreading eastward. Given that variation, it’s no surprise a host of interests come into play. Businesses—from national corporations to one-off boutiques—have made their home in the region. Industries as diverse as aerospace and recreation find a... Read More
