Perspectives in Boulder: An Exploration through Paintings, Perspectives, and Points of View

March 24th, 2024

Stained Glass Sunrise or Stained Glass Horizon Setting? Is There Any Real Difference? Sunrise over the Boulder Valley. OR Horizon-Setting in the Morning? Does the sun rise over Boulder or does the horizon set? Is there any difference? Is Sunday morning a great time to chat about dimensional convenience? What IS dimensional convenience? EASY! We pick our “dimensions” depending upon the problem we are approaching. The answer changes as the question changes. I cannot resist another example. To drive from Boulder to Denver we ignore that the earth is curved; that it is a grapefruit. We... Read More

Illuminating Boulder: Celebrating Books That Begin with the Dawn To Delve Into The Day

February 23rd, 2024

Our Boulder Sunrise  sets a scene of renewal, beginnings, and the natural cycle of the day.  With the intense and rapidly fading red of first light it evokes a sense of hope, new possibilities, and the beauty of nature. While this phrase is iconic and might feel like it opens countless works of fiction, poetry, and other forms of literature, pinpointing specific examples where this exact phrase starts a work can be challenging without extensive research across a broad spectrum of texts. However, the theme of sunrise and its metaphorical significance is a common literary motif. Below,... Read More

Saturday Sunrise Spectacle

January 20th, 2024

Another EARLY Sunrise! While I love the colors of Boulder sunrise, I do find that it seems to occur at a rather inconvenient hour every day! If sunrise were at noon, for example, I could have coffee and two meals before stepping out the back door to snap a few of another glorious sunrise. I suppose that adjusting the tilt of the earth on it’s rotational axis is out of the question, even in the land of astronauts and the rest of the University of Colorado brain trust. I trust their brains enough to not try to change the tilt of the earth. They’d probably notice. SO, I’ll stick... Read More

Boulder Friday Friendly Sunrise

January 12th, 2024

For many of us, Friday sunrise is a waking of weekend anticipation. Skis are waxed, camera lenses cleaned, layer laid out,                                                    Lensworth And with some fortitude and luck, we get to see a sunrise also. There have been days when I was on the slope, at the top, for “first snow.” Momma said there’d be days like this, but she did not tell me I’d be invited. It is said that the first step is the hardest. The first step is only the hardest when that step is from a generally warm tent... Read More

Summer Sunscreen Facts

July 5th, 2023

For pale faces like me, sunscreen is an absolute necessity. I would not be able to enjoy my outdoor lifestyle without serious protection for my skin. Recent research found that some ingredients from sun protection products are being absorbed into your body. Is this a risk to your health? Researchers say these sunscreen ingredients– avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene and ecamsule – are present in the blood after sunscreen application at levels that would, under current Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, trigger a requirement for further safety testing. Unfortunately, sunscreen... Read More
