Tuesday Sunrise Splendor! Surprise Super Spectacle of Color!

February 27th, 2024

I dozed. THEN my Boulder photo instincts or something woke me up in time to look outside. I was greeted by a sunrise light that looked more like a painting by a great artist than like a “normal” sunrise. I suppose that I was looking at a great painting by a great artist; the Universe! The sun rising, the clouds, refraction, moisture in the air, and the rest of what makes colors in the sky played some role I suspect <G> I grabbed the nearest camera, my phone, and the chill in the air vanished as a clicked away. The hardest part was picking a picture or so to share. I am... Read More

WHAT is a Boulder Tuesday? For that matter what is Tuesday??  I did what any curious person would do. in the year 2024.  I went to the “library” and researched “Tuesday.” I was a bit in awe at the significance of the day, and will share some of the highlights. Of course I use the word “library” in the current context, not in the “repository of books” context. That has special significance for me, having worked in school “old style” libraries starting in grade school. Working in the law school library was an amazing learning experience.... Read More

Boulder Dawn’s Embrace: Inspiration from the Girl with a Pearl

February 26th, 2024

Sunrise over Boulder brings motivation with it as the sun rises. Its morning glow proceeds its actual ascension over the horizon. Its light is a harbinger of the excitement and glow of the week to come. Whether we take the time to notice it or not, it rises. It brings its promise of progress along for the ride without fail. Our role in the process is easy. We merely need to look!     Imagine a Dutch Master portrait on the wall. As light comes streaming through the window, the glory of the brushstrokes take on a life of their own. Our role is to open our eyes to see what is there. It... Read More

A Sunrise Over Boulder Is True Poetry

February 22nd, 2024

Sunrise over Boulder is truly poetry. Deservedly famous poet John Donne, in his poem on sunrise, includes the following: A famous poem that beautifully captures the essence of sunrise is “The Sun Rising” by John Donne. This poem is a metaphysical poem where Donne addresses the sun directly, using it as a symbol to explore themes of love and the passage of time. Here’s an excerpt to give you a sense of its imagery and tone: “Busy old fool, unruly Sun, Why dost thou thus, Through windows, and through curtains, call on us? Must to thy motions lovers’ seasons run? Saucy... Read More

February 21st, 2024

Beyond beautifying Boulder as it basks in the glow of sunrise,  does sunrise serve another purpose? Yes! of course! Each sunrise, a reliable event, is the harbinger of the glory of the new day and its limitless possibilities. One day the color might cover the entire sky, horizon to horizon. Other days can be clouded over and show nothing much beyond a solid gray. A great metaphor for life! We can have a wonderful day even under a flat gray sky! If your schedule allows, watching the sunrise each day is magical. A metaphor in the flesh so to speak. Experiencing the sunrise, taking in the... Read More

Sunrise Past, Future, And In Between! Reliable, Punctual, And A GREAT Example For Boulderites

February 20th, 2024

Boulder has a long and colorful history of sunrises. The event seems to occur every morning, day in day out, on a tight schedule. This teaches a great lesson in reliability and punctuality, two important traits for success. I am so lucky to live in the future. In spite of the sometimes overwhelming challenges, there are great treats also. To be able to take a sunrise picture, and have it published on line with just a few minutes is magic. Not the slight of hand magic, but the speed of electrons magic. FAST! Lenny Lensworth Frieling Shared sunrise allows sleeping in with missing the early... Read More

Sunday Boulder Red, Longs Peak, The Divide, Tall Grass, and Beloved Boulder

February 18th, 2024

The Sun Rises Over A Section of Tall Grass Prairie, lighting Longs Peak, the front range, and the Continental Divide South of Longs Peak. As the sun rises the landscape nearest still shows the sunrise red, while the objects in the distance that have had sun for longer are losing the red Colorado. I was taught, in 1976 by a friend who grew up in Boulder that temperature coping was merely a matter of proper clothing. He now lives in Florida and I find that cold in fact IS cold. Proper clothing helps, and new hi-tech clothing helps more. Have a great rest of the weekend! pic Lenny Lensworth... Read More
