The Mesa Trail spans a stunning area of the incredible landscape just below the Flatirons and foothill peaks, but it is still difficult despite its rolling hills. Long, winding, hilly, and varied describe the trail. With connections to nearly all canyon trails along Boulder’s mountain backdrop, it meanders through forests and meadows beneath the Flatirons. Long runs are popular and dog-friendly.

To get to the Mesa Trail in Boulder, first head to the Chautauqua Park area, which is located at the base of the Flatirons. From there, you can access several different trails that will take you up to the Mesa Trail. The most direct route is to take the Chautauqua Trail to the Bluebell-Baird Trail, which will lead you up to the Mesa Trail. Alternatively, you can take the McClintock Trail to the Enchanted Mesa Trail, which will also lead you to the Mesa Trail. Both of these routes offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and Boulder, and are popular among hikers and trail runners. It’s important to note that the Mesa Trail is a relatively long and strenuous hike, so be sure to bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes.
