Boulder’s Dog of the Day: Swimming at Coot Lake in Boulder, Colorado

One happy pup turned Coot Lake into the ultimate playground today, splashing through the cool water on a beautiful Boulder afternoon. With sunshine overhead, mountain views stretching into the distance, and plenty of open space to run, it was another perfect day for Boulder’s dogs to enjoy one of the city’s most beloved outdoor spots.

Located just north of Boulder near the foothills, Coot Lake has become a favorite gathering place for dog lovers looking for an easy escape into nature. The wide-open trails, peaceful scenery, and dog-friendly atmosphere make it one of the top places in Boulder County for pups to cool off and burn energy year-round.

Coot Lake

For dogs that love the water, Coot Lake is hard to beat. The calm shoreline gives dogs an easy place to splash, swim, and chase tennis balls while owners relax and enjoy the incredible Colorado scenery. Many locals say it is one of the best places in Boulder for dogs to socialize because there is so much room to roam without feeling crowded.

Another reason Coot Lake stands out is its connection to Boulder’s extensive trail system. Dogs and their humans can enjoy long scenic walks around the lake while taking in views of the Flatirons, nearby open space, and rolling grasslands. Early mornings and evenings are especially magical, with golden light reflecting off the water and dogs happily racing along the shoreline.

Boulder has long been known as one of the most dog-friendly cities in America, and places like Coot Lake are a major reason why. The combination of outdoor adventure, fresh air, and community spirit creates a paradise for active dogs and the people who love them. Whether it is swimming, hiking, or simply enjoying a peaceful lakeside stroll, Coot Lake captures everything that makes Boulder special.

Today’s Dog of the Day clearly understood the assignment: jump in the water, enjoy the sunshine, and live life to the fullest Boulder-style.
