The Broncos Without a Starting Quarterback? – Inconceivable!

March 12th, 2024

Like many Bronco fans, I was struggling to figure out Sean Payton’s quarterback plans after letting go of Russell Wilson, despite still owing him $40 million. The Denver Broncos lacked the cap space for any high-priced free agent, were absent of the draft capital needed to move up for a top-three pick, and obviously, Jarrett Stidham could never be the answer. But it all became clear the other morning as I sat in bed watching the 1987 classic, The Princess Bride. Remember the scene in The Princess Bride, when the man in black (Westley) challenges Vizzini in a Battle of Wits to try and save Princess... Read More

Just One Question – Who’s Playing Quarterback Next Season?

January 2nd, 2024

With just two games remaining in the Denver Broncos season, Sean Payton made the decision to bench quarterback Russell Wilson. Essentially a move that put an end to Wilson’s future in Denver. Moving on from a quarterback that was only 11-18 in his two seasons as a Bronco. That’s football. Replacing a quarterback that doesn’t fit the coach’s scheme, acquired by the previous regime. That’s commonplace. Benching a quarterback as a scapegoat, implying that it wasn’t the coaching, but rather, the execution of the plays. That happens. Preferring a cheap quarterback on a rookie contract,... Read More

Kyrie Irving – The Man Behind the Mask

January 12th, 2022

Kyrie Irving is hardly the first professional athlete to refuse to be vaccinated. Aaron Rodgers has stumbled through most of the NFL season answering questions about the subject. Novak Djokovic can’t get into Australia after refusing to get his shots. Lamar Jackson, Bradley Beal, Kirk Cousins, and apparently Antonio Brown, all have refused to get vaccinated. But Irving’s situation is a little different. The Brooklyn Nets star has never given a clear reason for why he has chosen not to get vaccinated, explaining it as a personal decision. But the 7-time all-star is an outlier in a league... Read More

THE NFL ALL-COVID TEAM

December 20th, 2021

COVID-19 continued to dominate the NFL news cycle last week as three games had to be postponed, more than 150 players were placed in COVID-19 Protocol, and rosters scrambled for eligible replacements just hours before kick-off. The Chicago Bears had 12 players placed in COVID-19 Protocol, the Los Angeles Rams had 19, and the Cleveland Brown topped them all with a total of 20, including their head coach. With the Omicron variant wiping out entire team rosters, the NFL and the Players Association were forced to adjust their process announcing less testing for vaccinated players, thus allowing more... Read More

Betting on Bad Games

December 6th, 2021

The idea started percolating on a quiet Thursday night back in week three of the NFL season.  Carolina Panther’s star running back, Christian McCaffrey, had limped off the field early in the game only to be replaced by some guy named Chuba Hubbard.  The Houston Texans relied on a rookie quarterback named Davis Mills to keep the game close.  And I sat there watching despite not caring about either team, and not having any players starting on my Fantasy roster, until finally heading upstairs around halftime. Carolina would end up winning the game 24-9. Thursday Night Football originated as a... Read More

The Rebuild We Never Saw Coming

November 13th, 2018

The word rebuild is a rarity in the Denver Bronco vernacular.  With more Super Bowls than losing seasons, the rebuilding process is saved for teams like the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers.  Teams that are rebuilding don’t go after top free agents, don’t draft Bradley Chubb over rookie quarterbacks, and they don’t have player contracts like Case Keenum, Emmanuel Sanders, or Von Miller.  John Elway doesn’t rebuild, he reloads.  A missed field goal here and a lucky break there, and Denver would be right in the thick of it, we rationalize.  Well, sorry Bronco... Read More

NFL QB Rankings – Broncos 27th Out of 32

May 15th, 2018

After signing Case Keenum to a two-year contract and passing on a quarterback in the draft, how do the Broncos compare to the other 31 teams at the quarterback position for the next few years.  The ranking below.         Green Bay – They have Aaron Rodgers, enough said. New England – Tom Brady stars as Benjamin Button. New Orleans – Drew Brees signed a two-year extension worth $50 million, the Saints are fine. Seattle – Russel Wilson is only 29 years-old, has gone to four Pro-Bowls, and has already won a ring.  They’re good. Detroit – The franchise has issues,... Read More
