In Boulder, the idea of having fun without alcohol isn’t just a possibility—it’s a lifestyle many embrace. Whether it’s to sharpen their edge in sports, boost overall health, or simply enjoy life’s moments more fully, Boulderites are finding that sober fun can be even more rewarding than the alternative. Here’s the how and why (in reverse order). Why Go Sober in Boulder? Memorable Moments: Being sober means being present. You’ll remember the laughs, the conversations, and the stunning views without the haze of alcohol. It’s about truly experiencing the moment and being able to... Read More

Flashback Friday 2017 ~ 24 Years of Avery!

August 2nd, 2022

Looking for something local to do this Saturday? Celebrate the Avery Brewing Company’s 24th anniversary with some good tunes and plenty of beers. Avery Brewing has been around since it was established in 1993 by Adam Avery and his father, Larry. Their beers have pleased the mouths of locals for years, but now they have spread beyond Boulder. Just when I was living in Boston, I was introduced to what is now my go-to beer, Avery’s White Rascal. They’ve even crossed U.S. borders, selling their Boulder brews in Sweden and Japan! Clearly, there’s a lot to celebrate, so why not... Read More

Looking Back: Boulder Beer: Bold Since 1979

May 14th, 2022

Founded in 1979, on a farm just northeast of town, Boulder Beer has come a long way since it planted its roots in the Boulder Valley 38 years ago. As Colorado’s First Craft Brewery, Boulder Beer quickly took off, giving beer lovers an extraordinary change. After expanding their product, the brewmasters realized that they needed to expand their space as well, moving to the Pub on Wilderness Place in 1994. There are now two Boulder Beer locations – the one on Wilderness Place, and the other just off the Pearl Street Mall on Walnut. The Pub on Wilderness has to be my favorite location,... Read More

Enjoy Smoked Pork and Brews at Boulder Beer for Father’s Day!

June 16th, 2017

Don’t forget, Father’s Day is this weekend! There might still be enough time to get that card in the mail if you’re like me and procrastinated, right? Maybe. But, if you’re lucky enough to have your dad in Boulder with you this Father’s Day, there’s definitely still time to make some fun plans. My recommendation? Boulder Beer’s Father’s Day Pig Roast! You read that right, starting at 1 PM this Sunday, Boulder Beer is going to be smoking pork and feeding families BBQ style. It sounds like it’ll be best to come hungry too because one $14 plate comes with smoked pork, BBQ black beans,... Read More

Live Music and Beer: A Perfect Pairing

June 9th, 2017

Hiking and beer. Pilates and beer. Macaroni and cheese and beer. These are some of my favorite beer pairings this time of year (though mac and cheese with beer is more of a year-round delight). But there is one more pairing that I just can’t get enough of when the patios are open and corn hole is on the yard. That is live music and beer, particularly a little jazz, folk-rock, and bluegrass. Well, lucky for me and for you, Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery has a live band lined up for every Sunday night this summer as well as Monday nights at their Southern Sun location and Wednesday night open bluegrass... Read More

August in Boulder

August 12th, 2016

August in Boulder means hot summer temperatures, students coming back to school, and summer events beginning to wind down. In order to make the most of these last few weeks of August, here are a couple things to keep in mind: School is starting up again. All month, the Hill has been a hotbed of college students moving out of their old places and into their new ones. Mattresses and couches and toaster ovens are left on the side of the roads like some kind of post-apocalyptic disaster has struck. Classes start up again at CU Boulder on Monday, August 22nd, so be warned. The week of August 22nd will... Read More
